Lesson Plan in Practical Research 1

Objectives
Within the period, students are expected to:
1. collects data through interviews,
2. follow the steps in conducting a research interview, and
3. appreciate the values needed in conducting a research interview.
Subject Matter
Topic: Finding Answers through Data Collection
Sub- Topic: Interview Technique
References: TG- Practical Research 1 pages 132-143, Practical Research1 by Rex Book Store
pages 114- 126 and “The Everything to Improve your Writing Book” By Pamela Rice Hahn

Materials: Power Point Presentation, Activity sheets and other instructional materials.

Practical Research Concept:

An interview is a conversation where questions are asked and answers are given. In common
parlance, the word "interview" refers to a one-on-one conversation between an interviewer and an
interviewee. The interviewer asks questions to which the interviewee responds, usually so
information may be transferred from interviewee to interviewer (and any other audience of the
interview). Sometimes, information can be transferred in both communication directions , unlike
a speech, which produces a one-way flow of information.

LEARNING COMPETENCIES
Collects data through observation

A. Daily Routine:

Prayer

Cleaning

Greetings

Checking of attendance

B. Priming

2. Review

Select a word inside the box to match the definition of terms below.
Observation Direct Observation Spot Sampling

Continuous Monitoring Participant Observation

1. This observation method makes you see or listen to everything that happens in the area of
observation.
2. A technique of gathering data whereby you personally watch, interact, or communicate
with the subjects of your research.
3. This is one of the Methods of Indirect Observation wherein you observe to evaluate the
way people deal with one another.
4. This is done by continuous or uninterrupted focus on the subjects by recording your
observations in an oral manner not in a written way.
5. The observer, who is the researcher, takes part in the activities of the individual or group
being observed.

3. Motivation
“FAST TALK”

There are different colored papers placed under the armchair. Each student must find their partner
with the same color as them. There’s a word written on the paper, the first word is Interviewer
and the second word is Interviewee. Each pair will go to the front and seat on the chair provided
for them. The interviewer will read the question as fast as he/she can and the interviewee will
answer the question as fast as he/she can. Skipping a question or not answering is not allowed.

C. Lesson Proper
Activity# 1

1. Find a partner to whom you are very close with.

2. Get a 1whole intermediate pad and list 10 things that you know about your partner in 1 minute.
Coaching is not allowed
3. Exchange the paper with your partner and check the items which you think you really are.

Activity# 2

1. Create not less 5 questions but not more than 10 questions. You are given 2 minutes.
2. Your questions must be open-ended not closed- ended questions.
3. The focus of your questions is about the ideal girl or ideal boy.
Activity # 3
1. Be with your partner once again.
2. Interview your partner based on the questions you have created. You are given 5 minutes
3. Get all the informations given by your interviewee.

Analysis
Have you done all the instructions given to you?
Do you think you have done the correct way of interviewing a respondent or respondents in a
research paper? why?

Abstraction

Here are the Simple Steps in Conducting a Research Interview.

1. Preparation
Be fully prepared prior to the interview. Be knowledgeable about the topic to be discussed.
Research prior to the interview by visiting the interviewee ahead of time. If there are websites or
books about the person or company, read them to gain information. Make notes when researching
the topic that can later be used to form questions asked during the interview.
2. Form Questions
Create questions to ask before the interview begins. Prepare more questions than you expect to
ask in case the interview lasts longer or the questions are answered faster than first thought. Over
preparation is better than no preparation.

3. Show Courtesy
Be courteous. Remember that the interviewee is giving time out of their schedule to help with
research. For this reason, he or she deserves to be shown respect. This includes arriving on time
for the interview, politely greeting the interviewee and introducing yourself. It is also important
to dress appropriately.

4. Tape the Interview

Before the interview begins, ask the interviewee if the session can be recorded. A tape recording
of the session is very helpful to listen to while writing out the results of the interview. Whether or
not a recording is made, take notes on a note pad during the interview.

5. Confirm and Clarify

Clarify details during the interview. This includes the spelling of names, places, dates, and times.
For any topic discussed during the interview, clarification to ensure accuracy is important.

6. Ending the Interview

End the session on good terms. This is very important because if there are further questions that
need to be asked, a positive relationship will need to be kept. The interviewee should be thanked
for their time and information.

7. Research Information
Transcribe the interview immediately to keep the information as accurate as possible. It is
important to do it as soon as possible while the facts remain fresh in memory.

Relax, have fun and enjoy talking to your interviewee!

Generalization

Have you done any of those Steps in conducting a Research Interview?

Lets recap our Steps in Conducting a Research Interview.

Application
Group yourselves into 5 and think of a television show or a talk show wherein you will apply our
lesson and select other group to be your guest or interviewee. You will be given 3 Minutes
preparation. Do the show in 3 minutes or less. You may choose any topic.

Evaluation
Answer the given test questions about the Interview technique in Research.
