Introduction

Farzaneh Abdollahi Intelligent Control Lecture 1 2/7

Outline Introduction

Introduction

▶ At this course we plant to fucase on application of Machin learning

for Control and Fault diagnosis (FD)
▶ We take advantage of universal approximation properties of Neural
Networks (NN), for control and FD of system with no a priori
knowledge about its dynamics
▶ The course is divided to two main parts
▶ Intelligent Control
▶ Intelligent Fault Diagnosis
▶ Several algorithms, and popular challenges in Control and FD are
going to be investigated

Farzaneh Abdollahi Intelligent Control Lecture 1 3/7

Outline Introduction

▶ One of the disadvantages of NN and RL is lack of interpretability

▶ Moreover, choosing proper hyper parameters is key point to achieve
acceptable performance.
▶ Increasing number of these hyper parameters makes selecting them
more challenging
▶ Control theories are powerful tool to help analysis the behavior of RL
and NN and sometimes can give us a guideline for choosing hyper
parameters
▶ We are going to use control theory to analyse behavior of Intelligent
control and FD

Outline Introduction

▶ After introducing each approach in theory, we will have a lab session

to investigate the implementation challenges.
▶ After each lab session, the students are expected to implement the
discussed approach on a system as homework.
▶ References: There is no specific reference book for this course. Most
of the materials are provided from recent papers and online martials.
All of the used references will be provided at the end of each lecture.
▶ Evaluation:
▶ Projects and homework 60%
▶ Final exam 40%
