1. Introduction
Customers of Mercedes-Benz have high expectations of the products they have bought. When they buy a vehicle, they
expect the highest possible quality. Maintaining this quality when the vehicle is on its way to the customer is the aim of
quality management in Daimler transport logistics.
Mercedes-Benz also expects this high standard of quality from its service providers. This includes safe and non-damaging
loading and transport of all Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
These regulations form the basis for a trouble-free handling process. All parties involved in transport are required to
familiarize themselves with these instructions and to use them as the working basis for handling vehicles. Other applica-
ble national regulations are to be observed.
If any questions or a need for clarification should arise from these Mercedes-Benz provisions, please contact:
Work Clothes
1. Work clothes
Regardless of the time of year or temperature, it must be ensured that the driving personnel is wearing clean and suita-
ble work clothes to avoid dirtying or damaging the vehicles. It also must be ensured that the driver wears a warning
vest during loading and that the regulations of the Accident Prevention and Insurance Association or country-specific
requirements on the issue of work clothes are observed.
This includes wearing long work pants and a long-sleeved work jacket. In warm seasons, personnel are permitted to
wear t-shirts (sleeveless shirts) (see illustration). It is not allowed to wear jeans as working clothes.
Buttons, open zippers, belt buckles and sharp objects in the outer packets (e.g. pens, tools, keys, etc.) are not permitted
during the loading process. Wearing any rings and jewelry is also forbidden due to the risk of causing damage.
It must also be ensured that the loading personnel wear closed safety shoes. Exception: If vehicle is transported on its
own axis, solid and appropriate shoes are sufficient.
Work gloves must worn when carrying work on trucks. However, before getting into the vehicle, the work gloves should
be taken off, and the driver should keep hands clean or replace with clean gloves when operating inside the vehicle.

The risk transfer interface happens at plants, subsidiaries, vehicle logistic centers (VLC), shipping ports and dealership.
Vehicles must be checked at each transfer interface by the receiving party. Any Damages along with its’ responsibilities
can be identified.
Daimler AG, Insurance and MPC can at anytime request the service providers to provide an overview of damages for any
extra fees.
Test prerequisites
Hand-over check when vehicle leaves VPC
Hand-over check when vehicle arrives in the port of entry, VPC and dealer
Visual check
Completeness check
Damages that discovered should to be recorded on the shipping documents in accordance with the global vehicle damage
codes standard. (check Q-drome roll out in China, whether used by suppliers)
The transportation chain when automobiles change possession they must be inspected immediately while any damage
or missing items happened.
The purpose of this manual is to provide a standard up-to-date set of codes for recording vehicle exceptions to all per-
sonnel responsibilities for handling vehicles through the transportation chain. It is important the damage codes are ac-
curate and detailed.
The codes are recorded manually on delivery receipts or in portable data terminals for transfer into the manufacturers’
claims systems. Individual manufacturers may issue manuals with photographs depicting of the damage areas and types.
The damage codes are composed of five digits as follows:
Severity Codes
Note:
Special requirements for transport mode
If the transport mode is deactivated, this is to be documented in the shipping documents and to be reported to
MBCL/BBAC.
Furthermore, if damaged or open loose part bags are found, MBCL/BBAC is to be informed immediately (unless there
are other instructions to cover this).
1.3 Hand-over check when vehicle arrives in the port of entry, VPC and dealer
The recipient is required to check the vehicle for damage and missing parts as soon as it arrives as long as the vehicle's
outer condition permits this. Night deliveries are noted on the waybill. The vehicle must be checked and, where applica-
ble, the damage report must be created on the next working day. If the dealer receives more than 20 vehicles at a
single day, such a damage report can be created on the third working day. For transport by ship, damage must be re-
ported within 72 hours.
Causes for complaint are noted on the waybill. Later reports by the recipient are only possible if the damage is hidden.
If the outer condition of the vehicle (very dirty, iced up) does not allow checking to take place immediately, this is noted
on the waybill by the recipient.
However, a check for more serious damage and missing parts must always be carried out. A detailed damage report for
hidden damage must take place within 4 days. Hidden damages include chassis scratches that can only be found by
lifting the vehicle up, damages inside the bonnet, etc.
Production deficiencies or signs of wear are to be noted by the recipient on the waybill and must be clearly identified as
such. The delivering driver is always required to countersign as a confirmation of the complaint.
The visual check is to be carried out at a distance of approx. 1 m and at an angle of 45 degrees to the vehicle.
During the visual check, the vehicle is to be checked for body or paint surface damage. This includes:
checking the tires and rims for mechanical damage and deformation;
checking whether wheel arches are damaged;
checking the vehicle surface (particularly bumpers, driver's door, exterior mirrors) for scratches and dents as well as
for dirt (e.g. hydraulic fluid, greasy residue, environmental influences such as bird excrement);
checking all windows, headlamps and/or rear lights for damage by stones or other mechanical damage;
checking the front and rear areas (front spoilers, rear apron, side skirts, exhaust trim) for signs that the vehicle has
bottomed out. This can be done using a mirror;
Checking for dirt or damage in the vehicle interior, especially in the area of the driver's door and on the driver's side.
If missing parts, deficiencies or damage are discovered, the procedure in the chapter "Procedure if damage has occurred"
must be followed. Damage is to be reported immediately before the vehicle is moved by the accepting party. Subsequent
reports will not be considered.
The completeness check is only carried out when there are missing or damaged seals. Checks are made for the following
components:
vehicle jack,
vehicle tool kit,
spare wheel or Tirefit with compressor,
wheel trims in the case of steel rims,
special equipment as per waybill (e.g. navigation CD),
first-aid kit
warning triangle
Owner's Manual
enclosed package,
towing eye cover (this applies to the entire MB passenger vehicle product range),
Note:
Completeness check is omitted if the transport mode is activated. This means that the transport mode must not be
disabled.
Before the vehicle is started, it must be ensured that the footwell protection in the interior is attached correctly. If
this is not the case, this must be corrected before the vehicle can be safely moved.
The existing TPMs must not be removed.
TPM description
To provide an overview of the scope of TPMs, the areas currently protected are presented below.
Key Management
If not otherwise stipulated by MBCL/BBAC, the vehicles are to be unlocked when being stored. In this case, the key is to
be removed from the ignition lock and looped over the indicator lever. In certain cases, MBCL/BBAC may require the
vehicle to be locked.
1. General
To avoid any risk of damage when vehicles are being transported open, the following driving instructions are to be adhered
to:
Dispatching:
The route selection to the desired destination is to be selected, taking the vehicle headroom into account (i.e. the maxi-
mum extent of height and width) to ensure that construction sites, bridges, tree-lined avenues, roadside structures or
foliage cannot impair or damage the load.
In special weather conditions (e.g. snow, hail, extreme wind, falling trees and branches or ice), the route or driving oper-
ation is to be adjusted accordingly and every risk to the cargo is to be avoided.
Driving-related effects:
The driving style must be adapted and must contain an element of foresight to ensure that driving-related effects (such
as flying stones) do not pose a risk to the cargo.
Note: All transporters (single and double-decker) are required to be fitted with a stone-guard above the wheels. Otherwise,
they are not suitable for transporting MB passenger vehicles due to the risk of damage.
Transporting materials of any kind in the vehicles being transported and on the loading surface is expressly forbidden or,
in exceptional cases, is to be agreed with MBCL/BBAC.
Customized enlargements of the loading floors strictly forbidden
The road safety of the tires must be guaranteed. Any damage that arises is to be fixed immediately.
No hydraulic systems may show signs of leaking and the mechanical load equipment must be fully functional.
Transport vehicles must always have suitable approach rails to avoid damaging the bumpers or the vehicle under-
bodies.
It must be ensured that the special vehicle transporter is suitable for the goods entrusted to the service provider
(overall weight/dimensions).
The profile of the loading surfaces and the approach rails must provide a good grip but may not have sharp edges
[see fig.].
All loading and unloading equipment as well as load securing equipment shall be stowed and secured properly and
safe for road traffic.
Caution: Rusted vehicle and add-on parts as well as rusted loading surfaces on transport vehicles may cause paint
damage and must therefore be avoided. Any damage that results is the responsibility of the service provider. Because
of a not conform truck/trailer, will be in the responsibility of the service provider and a recourse is requested
It must be ensured that the trailers is equipped with mud-flaps
4. Load-securing equipment
Passenger vehicles and vans: There must be a minimum of 2 chocks for each vehicle to be loaded. All chocks to be
used must be at least 1/6 of the wheel diameter. Furthermore, the chocks must be approved by the manufacturer.
In addition, 4 three-point tie-down straps with rubber blocks and double-locking ratchet are to be used. A precise defini-
tion of the three-point tie-down strap to be used can also be found in this section.
Furthermore, the strap to be used must be 2.2 m in length and have maximum expansion of 7%. The lashing force (LC)
must be at least 2000KG in a straight line, meaning that the real LC when the lashing straps are wrapped around tires is
double that 4000KG [see fig. above]. The strap must be equipped with a continuous and variable anti-skid band (see fig.
strap controllers). This must be designed in such a way to prevent twisting during transport. It also must be guaranteed
that the strap controllers are at least as long as half the circumference of the wheel, as the three-point tie-down strap
may not touch the tire.
5. Load preparation
The angle of the approach rails must be designed to avoid damage to spoilers, underbodies and exhaust systems, but
may not exceed a maximum angle of 10° . For this reason, air-sprung trailers must be in the lowest position for loading
and unloading and the tractor vehicles must be in the highest position to produce as small an approach angle as possible.
For the transport of the AMG GT/GT S and AMG SLS a maximum angle of 10° is too high it is imperative to observe the
notes.
When loading the vehicle, a rubber mat has to be placed in front of the ramp to mitigate the pressure between wheel and
ramp.
The ramp should be constructed as flat to protect wheel edges during loading, especially for wide-wheel models (e.g
AMG).
U-style ramp is not allowed.
The height difference and space for transitional areas must be adapted to the vehicles being loaded.
When loading the upper loading level, there must be as flat a transitional areas as possible between the tractor vehicle
and the trailer [see fig. included] to avoid damage to the underbody and the spoiler.
The loading surfaces must be free of unattached and blocking parts (e.g. chocks, three-point tie-down straps with rubber
blocks, tools, bracket retainers, etc..) [see fig.].
All pillars/ container walls and edges have to be padded as is in the picture to avoid door damages. The co-driver has to
help the driver to come out of the car without any door damages.
Move out of the side window is strictly forbidden.

The fire extinguisher should be equipped in the trailer, where is easy to be approached in case of emergency.
The fall protection should be installed and used properly in the trailer.
6. Vehicle hand-over
Vehicle hand-over is in accordance with the chapter "General",
"The vehicle hand-over check".
If the vehicle is equipped with "Don’t open" seals, these may
not be damaged.
Vehicle documents are to be checked for correctness. The embossed chassis number must match the transport docu-
ment completely.
During the loading and unloading procedures for passenger vehicles and vans, the following
is to be noted:
When driving onto the transport vehicle, walking speed must be maintained. Furthermore, the conditions in the
chapter "General handling of MB vehicles".
Vehicles with pneumatic suspension are always to be transported in the highest suspension position. The "Airmatic"
section of the relevant model chapter shows which vehicle models are equipped with Airmatic.
The following minimum clearances around the vehicles to be loaded must be adhered to (vehicle-specific clearances
must also be taken into account, however):
Important note: The engine is to be switched off immediately in the event of backfires, noticeable loss of engine power
or other operational faults.
Furthermore, vehicles with manual transmission must be driven down from the truck under their own power. Letting the
vehicles roll down and braking them with the handbrake or even with the clutch pedal damages the vacuum pump and
may lead to failure of the brake booster.
Important: Specialist assistance is provided by MBCL/BBAC in question, the responsible vehicle logistics center or the
nearest Mercedes-Benz workshop.
All operating states in which uncombusted or only partially combusted fuel can enter the catalytic converter are to be
avoided.
These include:
Starting the engine by towing, pushing or rolling off transporters or ramps.
Frequent consecutive attempts to start the engine.
Extremely long operation of the starter motor.
Switching off the ignition during the journey.
The chocks (1/6 of wheel height) must be so designed that they do not cause any damage to the body when affixing and removing.
There must also be no damage as a result of insufficient clearance to floor assemblies and other vehicle parts during the journey.
Important: During transport, the load is to be checked, and the load-securing equipment is to be checked to see that it
remains in place. When loading Vario vehicles, the load is to be secured in the same manner as with vehicles that are
loaded backwards.
The vehicles must have both wheels of a single axle or both axles in the recess or latch. This arrangement replaces chocks.
All other securing arrangements are in accordance with the drawings shown here.
If a vehicle on the upper loading level cannot be secured within the lanyard rail, either
The loading platform is to be lowered until this action is possible when standing on the ground, or
The wheels of one vehicle axle are to be secured on both sides with two chocks and a three-point tie-down strap on
each side within the lanyard rail.
Important notes:
If a chock cannot be placed for technical reasons, a three-point tie-down strap with belt controller is to be affixed to the
other side of the axle.
AMG vehicles and vehicles with the "Avantgarde" equipment line may only be raised (stacked) with hydraulic stack-
ing rails.
When stacking, the stacking angle of the vehicles during transport may not exceed 25° .
During hydraulic overlapping on single deck wagons with hydraulic equipment the overlap angle may not exceed
25° .
If a vehicle on the upper lading platform cannot be chocked and tied-down diagonally within the lanyard rail, either:
the loading platform is to be lowered until this action is possible when standing on the ground, or
Major violations of these regulations will result in MBCL/BBAC issuing an immediate ban on loading applicable for
all VPC locations.
Loaded transport vehicles must be parked on fenced-in, secured company sites belonging to the service provider or on
manned car parks/rest stops during the night, at weekends and on public holidays [see "Guidelines for storing in
dispatch and storage areas"].
ADS vehicles:
Special attention is needed, when ADS-vehicles (Adaptive Suspension System) are being loaded.
With this suspension the vehicle tends to swing during transport, it influences the driving behavior
of the truck compared to the conventional transports and therefore special lashing requirements are needed.
10cm each to the ground, front and to the ground, above the roof,
Distance:
back above the roof 20 cm front/back 10 cm
Due to these requirements the load factor might decrease. Please make sure to have this documented on the freight
documents.
ESP:
• In the case of short/long concepts: ESP obligation for motor vehicles and trailer bodies
in accordance with UNECE R13 and VO 661/2009.
• In the case of short / long concepts: an anti-snaking brake can positively affect driving characteristics.
• In the case of long/long concepts: no ESP obligation according to manufacturer's approval; ESP can also
provide positively assistance in such cases.
1. General
Vehicles should only ever be loaded onto car transporters (car carriers, con-ro, feeder ships and ferries). Conventional
loading of vehicles is not permitted. The ships must be classified in accordance with Chinese law and regulations (***)
4. Load Preparation
The ramp angles must not permit damage to spoilers, underbodies or exhaust systems (max. 8° ). The routes within the
ship are to be determined before loading/unloading and are to be indicated with suitable means (cones, tape). [see

6. Vehicle Hand-over
Vehicle hand-over is in accordance with the chapter "General", "The vehicle hand-over check".
Switching off the ignition while the vehicle is in motion is not permitted.
Shipping vehicles parked in a crosswise position is generally not permitted for trucks, vans and buses.
For the "A4" version of the Sprinter, the impaired ramp angle – due to the suspension being lowered 3 cm – must
be taken into account. (Van specific)
The following minimum clearances around the vehicles to be loaded must be adhered to (vehicle-specific
clearances must also be taken into account, however):
8. Securing
When loading vehicles onto sea/feeder barges and ferries, the responsibility for vehicle lashing rests with the ship's
officers. The lashing and de-lashing procedure must be performed immediately after parking, or before the driving the
vehicles off.
During sea transport, the load and correct seating of lashings should be checked
Please make sure that the bumper cover is not pulled out or pressed in with strong force
To remove the tow hook, unscrew the hook. In the same way, please screw in the
towing hook when assembling
If this is not possible by hand, an electric drill with an approved attachment can be
used (Pic.7)
There are two different tow hooks : Black with 24mm thread for vehicle model
Series 167, silver with 22mm thread for other vehicle model series Pic.7

8.1.2 Car lashing with lashing eyes
Cars should be lashed as follows:
The shorter end the car lashing should be hooked into lashing eye of the car.
(lock is above, in the direction of the lashing eye) (Pic8)
The other end of the lashing should be fixed the deck of the ship and(Pic.9)
The fastener fixed by belt loop (Pic.10)
Exception "Clusper lashings" in combination with poly slings: The lock must be fixed in the direction of the ship's deck.
Exception
Applies to: G-Class, S-Class AMG, AMG GT 4
Due to the position of the towing eye, additional slings should be used for securing.
(2 at the front and 2 at the rear) [cp. illustration].
Generally:
If vehicles are secured with an additional sling, 1 sling should be used per lashing. The breaking load of each car
lashing may not be below 1,500 kg.
The lashing eyes are screwed in at the front and rear by the port operator. If the original towing eyes are used (e.g. V-
Class, Vito and Viano), they must remain in or on the vehicle.
Note: In vehicles which rim-lashing is prescribed; please secure the vehicles as shown in the picture with a Sling and
scoring protection. The risk of damage to the rims should be reduced or even avoided.
On steel wheels, lashing is done using plastic coated hooks through the
apertures in the wheel and on light-alloy wheels, a loop belt is fed around
a spoke and the lashing hooked into the strap.
In order to avoid the lashing applying turning force to the wheel, the lash-
ing must always be directed towards the center of the wheel. The length
of the lashing must be between 0.80 m and 1.50 m. The lashing angle
must be 40° - 60° towards the front and towards the rear. Heavy equip-
ment etc. must be secured in agreement with the captain or port captain,
specifically, according to the weight and other special considerations. Due
to the limited working area for the lashing personnel, particular care must
be taken in order to avoid contact with the vehicle.
1. General
To avoid unnecessary damage in the railway transportation, the following rules should be implemented in the process of
loading and unloading.
2. Basic rules for driving and parking commercial vehicle at train station
After the freight car enters the train distribution yard, if there is any operation on the platform, the vehicle should be
parked 5 meters away from the station.
3. Load Preparation
3.1 Routine inspection
Open the train door after checking whether the door is sealed properly, and hang the door firmly
Check whether the ramp angles are in good condition, and replace them in time if damaged
Check whether there are sundries in the train carriage to ensure the cleanliness
3.4 Loading
Commercial vehicles shall be loaded in accordance with the principle of first loading the lower layer and then the upper
layer. If the body of commercial vehicles is high, the median plate should be adjusted to a safe working position man-
ually.
Stop the car at a distance of 50cm from the front wheel to ramp angles. Make sure that the front bumper of the
commercial car will not collide with the ramp angles. Keep the vehicle slowly get on the train.
Keep at least 30cm gap to the car in front.
After parks the parking brake should be tightened, if there is a manual shift it should be put on the first gear shift and
confirm that all electrical and electric devices in the car are turned off.
Close doors, windows and sunroof, and place the key please secure that the key hangs always on the indicator. It is to
secure that no driver/worker can damage the key or loose it through putting it in the pocket or push it out of the
vehicle when sitting on it.
4. Load-Securing Equipment
Passenger vehicle
Four lashing devices are to be provided for each vehicles.
The fastener must be wrapped along the middle of the tire, and shall be flat without any twisting or knotting.
Antiskid blocks should be arranged evenly on the contacting interface of belt and tire surface.
Rotate the shaft to tighten the belt. The tightening degree of the belt should be suitable for the slight deformation of
the commercial vehicle tire, and the four-wheel tension degree is equivalent
Note: A35-AMG and EQC models cannot be transported by railway due to the limitation of train loading conditions.
1. General
Driving and loading personnel, as well as rail/rail car companies are required to be familiar with the instructions of the
Operations Manual, chapters "General" and "Sector-specific".
Loading/unloading, as well as securing the vehicle, shall be done in accordance with the valid specifications of the
rail/rail car companies involved. The regulations pertaining to load dimensions of the individual recipient countries (the
smallest load dimension of the route is valid) and arrangements made in the contracts are to be adhered to. Observe the
safety requirements of the individual rail car manufacturers in regards to the loading of new vehicles onto rail road cars.
Specific specifications for certain vehicle models which, due to restricted equipment, require special loading methods
shall always be observed in order to guaranteed damage-free transport.
• The loading surfaces shall be clean and free of materials which may cause damage (wire, glass, stones, etc.).
• The profile of the load surface is to be non-slip and may not have any sharp edges.
• Suitable wheel chocks are required.
• Rusty loading surfaces can cause paintwork damage and are therefore to be avoided in every case.
• Use of salt is not permitted.
• Defective rail cars shall be reported to the corresponding manufacturer as per regulation.
3. Loading preparation
General
Rail road cars which are at the ramp for loading/unloading shall be safeguarded from rolling away by means of a
chock/stop block [see illustration].
The ramp angle shall be designed so no damage may occur to the vehicle undersides. When loading and unloading, the
ride-on surface between the rail cars shall be made as level/flat as possible. The ride-over flaps shall be able to be folded
back in order to prevent damage to the vehicle undersides and spoilers. Additionally, wheel chocks are to be removed
from the path of the wheels. Loose approach ramps or rails are to be fastened to the rail car using lugs
Attention: It is strictly forbidden for personnel to be on the upper deck when there are live overhead lines.
Before loading or unloading the upper deck shall be additionally secured by lowering onto the support provided (e.g. lugs
or rotary supports). Additionally, in order to avoid any damage to the roof, it shall be checked as to how far the upper
deck can be raised and secured during loading or unloading. Loose approach ramps or rails are to be fastened to the rail
car using lugs.
Before manually lowering or raising the upper deck, the hand cranks and their sockets shall be checked and free of
defects (safety precaution). Should any defects be detected, a hand crank from another rail car can be used, or that of
the socket opposite the defective socket for raising and lowering the upper loading deck.
When auxiliary units are implemented for lowering or raising the upper loading deck, use only devices listed in the corre-
sponding handbook of that particular rail car (e.g. pneumatic wrench). (Damage to the safety-related parts of the rais-
ing/lowering equipment may occur).
For all movements of the upper loading deck, personnel are required to observe the path of movement, and to immedi-
ately switch off the auxiliary unit when the upper/lower-most position is reached.
4. Vehicle loading
4.1 General
During the entire vehicle loading procedure, employees of Daimler Greater China and persons authorized by Daimler
Greater China are permitted to check the transport vehicles and to point out where loading or securing of a load differs
from that stated in this guideline so that errors may be corrected.
• The specifications in the general section of the Operations Manual for loading/unloading shall be adhered to.
• Loading and unloading shall occur no faster than walking pace. Walking pace means a max. speed of 10 km/h. (Ob-
servance of the OM chapter General handling of MB vehicles.)
• Check the front bumper for damage when unloading (rail) which may have been caused by contact with the ground
surface.
• Vehicles with air suspension are always to be transported in the highest raised position. The instructions for models
which are equipped with AIRMATIC/air suspension can be found in the corresponding model series data sheets.

chock to the left and right of the lane.
• Vehicles loaded over the short couplings may only be se-
cured on one axle using four wheel chocks [see illustra-
tion].
• If loading dimensions are exceeded, vehicles on the upper
loading deck are to be grounded.
1. General
To make sure the high quality of transportation, the service provider should allocate the truck with safe, clean and stand-
ard size. The following functions will be integrated in successive stages: Loading audit and monitoring of measures, as
well as KPI measurement, contact data and logistic profiles.
2. Truck Audit
The trucks of all service providers are subjected to random checks by MBCL/BBAC auditors for condition and compliance
with internal and external regulations.
All the auditors are empowered by MBCL/BBAC &Daimler AG to order measures or loading prohibitions on behalf of
MBCL/BBAC.
The service providers will be evaluated according to the following aspects (among others):
The driver's aspect
The vehicle's operating state
Vehicle handling
Cause: Rust on transport vehicle, but in this individual case does not trigger a loading prohibition.
Procedure: Repair within 6 months or at the latest concurrent with the next statutory inspection. Once this has been
done, proof of the measures of repair to be documented if within the period no feedback is forthcoming, the warning is
transformed into loading prohibition.
In individual cases MBCL/BBAC reserves the right to maintain the loading prohibition in spite of proof of training being
presented.
In the event of a driver change / vehicle change due to a loading prohibition (Handling) report must be made to
MBCL/BBAC.
There is also the possibility - after advance notification - for the respective auditors to perform a post-audit in the pro-
duction facilities. If the auditor should find the condition of the truck to be acceptable, the existing loading prohibition
will be annulled. This is not valid for loading prohibitions/ warnings concerning Handling.
On-site training of service provider by loading trainers may be carried out by agreement. Should a truck attempt,
in spite of the existence of a loading prohibition, to enter the production facility premises, a new loading prohibition shall
be issued
Important!
Persons with electronic implants (e.g. heart pacemakers) may not carry out any work on high-voltage systems. For this
reason, these persons may also not participate in HV training sessions.
In principle, repair of damages in transit have to be conducted at a Mercedes-Benz dealer or VPC. Any kinds of repairing
except at MB dealer or VPC are strictly prohibited.
TSP has to provide regular damage reports and any other related document required by MBCL for damage evaluation
purposes. Any serious accidents and/or major damages must be reported to MBCL immediately.
All compensation shall include, but not be limited to, reparation fee and possible vehicle’s depreciation fee. All compen-
sation must be settled with MBCL within two months after the damage/accident occurred.
TSP is not allowed to settle damage expenses directly with a dealer without prior approval of MBCL.
MBCL reserves the right to deduct any outstanding payments for damage and depreciation values from the monthly
settlement with the liable TSP.
1.3.1. Damage that may occur, or missing accessory parts, is not corrected on site but rather at the final destination.
Exceptions (e.g. to make the vehicle roadworthy again or to avoid subsequent damage) are to be agreed with order
processing. To avoid customs processing, vehicles may not be removed from "bonded" transport. A replacement delivery
of missing parts is initiated by the recipient or by order processing.
1.3.2. If theft has been established, the police must be informed immediately. A copy of the police report must be sent
to MBCL. If the entire vehicle has been stolen, MBCL must be notified immediately.
1.3.3. Deficiencies in protective measures are corrected by the turn-around companies/storage location operators
after an order has been placed for them to do so. In the case of general deficiencies in protective measures, MBCL is to
be informed in writing.
The transport damage message must be received by MBCL within the legal time limits for complaints and the damage
message should be including the damage description, the car info and the estimated repairing cost, see Appendix A.
Any kinds of overdue damage report beyond the legal time limits are not acceptable.
The damage report and the waybill are kept by the transport company and the recipient for at least 5 years.
3.1. If the damage or missing part has been established by the collecting driver, the operator must note the complaint
on the waybill (unless the cause of complaint is corrected on site).
3.2. The operator draws up a damage report immediately. The damage report contains at least the following data: Order
number, chassis number, date and time of vehicle receipt, data and time of establishing damage, description of damage,
name of the damaging party, date of creation, name and phone number of the damage reporting party and a conveyance
of title.
3.3. If the operator or one of his/her employees is responsible for the damage, he/she must address the damage report
to himself/herself with the note "damaged in storage".
3.4. In cases of theft and vandalism, the operator must inform the police and have a police log created.
3.5. The damage report is kept by the operator for at least 5 years.
To begin with, there are some safety notes that must be observed:
E-Cell and fuel cell vehicles can only be jump started by trained specialist personnel.
The ignition must be switched off when working in the engine compartment.
Any manipulation of the ignition system is strictly prohibited.
Touching live parts may pose a danger to life.
In the case of ignition systems with an increased power rating, the conductive parts may not under any circum-
stances be touched.
When the ignition is switched on, there are high voltages in the entire ignition system of all vehicles – both in the
components and the cable harness.
No jump-starting may be performed between the vehicles that are to be transported.
Prerequisite:
Jump-starting only takes place when the engine is cold and the catalytic converter has cooled down.
The engine may not be switched on if the battery has frozen. The battery must be thawed out first.
The cross-section of the cable must be at least 25 mm 2 for all passenger vehicles.
Flexibility: A cable wound out of thick copper wire is invariably more rigid than a finer design. You must take into
account the fact that the insulating material hardens more in cold conditions.
It must be ensured that the terminal clamps are insulated. These must be completely made of plastic to avoid short
circuiting caused by inadvertent touching of metal parts of the vehicle. Only the contact parts at the tip of the clamp
are made of metal.
The booster battery must be over 12 volts.
Procedure:
The following sequence must be observed as, if it is not, persons may be injured, the battery may be destroyed or there
may be damage to the electrical systems of both vehicles.
1. Connect the first battery booster cable (red) to the positive terminal of the booster battery, and then to the positive
terminal of the discharged battery.
2. Connect the second battery booster cable (black) to the negative terminal of the booster battery and the other end
to the engine ground (engine block) of the vehicle you wish to start.
3. Start.
4. When removing the battery booster cables, remove first the black cable from the negative terminals and then the
red cable from the positive terminals.
Transport mode
1. Transport mode
In the following section, the systems and components which arise from the method of transport are listed:
Please observe:
If the kilometer limit of 350 km has been exceeded in transport mode, it switches to "permanently deactivated" and can
no longer be re-activated.
If transport mode is activated, the ignition position of the vehicles is monitored. If the vehicle is in key position 2 for
longer than 10 sec. when the vehicle is stationary, the fanfare horn is activated. The fanfare horn can be deactivated by
changing the key position to 0 or 1, or by starting the engine (key position 3).
1 2 3
The exterior lighting only functions when the engine is running. When the engine is started, the manual headlamps
(dipped-beam headlamps) are automatically switched on.
If the battery charge level falls below 40%, the "Replace battery" message appears in the display. This message only
disappears once the battery has been replaced. Should the battery need to be replaced, this should be done shortly
before the vehicle handover.
Important note:
Vehicles which have unclosed doors (zipper) may pose a risk during transport and to other road users. The figure above
shows a type of protection similar to the Full Body Cover. The cover has torn on the loaded transporter and may tear off
completely. Three assessment criteria have been specified to prevent this:
1. The Full Body Cover is undamaged and the adhesive tape on the windshield does not come loose or flap around. (see
figure with green tick)
The Full Body Cover is OK.
2. The Full Body Cover is slightly damaged (the damage must not exceed the width of the adhesive tape) and the strips
of adhesive tape on the windshield are coming loose.
Repair the Full Body Cover and adhesive tape on the windshield with strips of suitable adhesive tape
Record the damage on the freight
When driving with the Full Body Cover attached, observe the following information:
The instructions in the "Transport mode" section shall continue to be complied with
Visibility around the vehicle is impaired
Parktronic is inoperative
The light emitted from the headlamps and tail lamps is impaired
The function of the windshield wipers is impaired, and in some cases, the rear wiper is inoperative
Air-recirculation mode is inoperative in some cases
Avoid leaving the engine running in neutral unnecessarily
The reversing camera is inoperative
After driving: Close the zipper. (see figure above)
Note:
A Full Body Cover is intended as a single use item and therefore cannot be reused. The used Full Body Cover shall be
disposed of correctly as plastic waste.
If in storage for more than 12 months by G-Class and more than 9 months by all others Mercedes Benz Cars, the Full
Body Cover shall be removed. Furthermore the instructions on vehicle storage in section 9.2 shall be complied.

Vehicles which have tears to the soft-top protection cover or hooks are loose and may
pose a hazard during transport or to other road users. The figure on the left shows a type
of protective cover similar to the soft-top cover. The soft-top cover has torn on the loaded
transporter and may come off completely.
3. The soft-top cover is torn, severely damaged, it flaps around and adhesive tape cannot be reattached.
Remove the soft-top cover
Transport the vehicle without a protective cover
Record the damage on the freight documents and report the damage to the loading personnel and those further
along the supply chain
Note:
The soft-top cover is intended as a single use item and there-
fore cannot be reused. The used soft-top cover shall be dis-
posed of correctly as plastic waste.
If in storage for more than 9 months, the soft-top cover shall
be removed and the instructions on vehicle storage in section
9.2 shall be complied with.

Facilities
1. Scope
This guidelines applies to all Daimler
distribution centers,
ports,
plant and storage locations and
back-up locations.
VPC´ s
dispatch area
All new locations must correspond to these standards. Deviations from this basis must be agreed with Daimler AG or
with authorized specialist personnel of Daimler AG.
The following standards for dispatch and storage locations were developed to provide a uniform basis and guideline for
all service providers. They serve to maintain the quality of Daimler vehicles.
Plants (bushes and trees) are to be kept away from the parking areas (minimum distance to parked vehicles 1.5 m).
Plants and trees are not desirable near the fences as they may provide an opportunity to climb over the fence from the
outside and make it more difficult to monitor the fence (detecting damage or preparations to break in) from the inside.
There must be a proper connection to the road network (no gravel paths) and this must be free of trees. The traffic rules
on the site in question [see fig below] must be clear and straightforward (signs, markings, etc.). Roads shall be at least
7.00 m wide. (per lane/direction 3.5 m)
All comings and goings are to be documented. It must also be checked that everyone on the site is there with permission.
There must sanitary facilities in the immediate vicinity of the loading place, or these must be installed.
Gravel, grass and rubble on the surface of the driving and parking areas are not allowed. For this reason, the area must
be cleaned regularly.
The distribution area may not have any large puddles or potholes and must be completely fitted with drainage.
In mass turn-around areas such as ports, block parking is allowed (cf. fig). These are areas where vehicles are placed
temporarily after being unloaded from ships/railroad cars/trucks (according to the principle of "first in, first out") before
they are sent to their final parking position. A parking row should be at least 2.6 m wide. An appropriate space must be
provided for larger models. Parking rows at lighting masts should be avoided due to the risk of bird droppings and other
contamination.
2.4.1 Illumination
The entire area, particularly the vehicle checking area, must be sufficiently illuminated [cf. fig]. Floodlights along the fence
are also recommended. The checking areas must be illuminated at 500 lux. In the case of a railroad connection, all
railroad car levels must be illuminated sufficiently. Lamp posts between vehicles are to be avoided.
2.4.2 Obstacles
Obstacles such as lamp posts, railings, hydrants etc. are to be highlighted with safety colors and are to be padded.
(According safety instructions) Curb stones and fenced enclosures are to be avoided or must observe a minimum clear-
ance of
30 cm.
A sufficient number of Mode 3 alternating current (AC) charging systems (e.g. wallbox, charging station) incl. suitable
charging cable are to be made available. Depending on the vehicle market, up to 3 different charging systems and
vehicle charging sockets are in use: Type 1, Type 2, Type 2 China (see fig.). Each vehicle may only be charged using
charging systems suitable for the charging socket and cable.
In agreement with SC/WTR, vehicles may also be charged using Mode 2 charging on safety sockets. This is to be set
out in writing. In this case, only charging cables for the respective type of vehicle which have been approved by
Daimler may be used. Otherwise, the vehicle may be damaged.
Please observe that the use of charging cables not approved for the vehicle are a potential risk.
Please observe that repair costs arising from the use of charging cables not approved for the vehicle will not be borne
by the manufacturer/service outlet. In this case, all costs from the repair facility will be the responsibility of the freight
forwarder.
Ensure sufficient electrical power input of the charging systems being used and of the shipping or storage area.
Charging systems and safety sockets for charging must be installed professionally and must undergo regular safety
and functional checks.
The charging cable which comes with the vehicle may not be used.
Please observe that only that only qualified personnel handle vehicles with high-voltage (HV) system.
Due to the high concentration of goods that are often targeted by thieves, special security measures are to be taken
when setting up and operating these vehicle turnover areas.
To achieve effective protection, the planning and set-up of these surfaces have three important components:
To be taken into account in a security concept and coordinated with one another.
2.5.1 Fencing
The main surfaces on which vehicles are parked, stored and turned around are to be provided with a boundary (fence or
wall). The boundary must provide sufficient resistance against being climbed over, crawled under or penetrated. An as-
sumption should be made that criminals will attempt a break-in without tools or with simple tools. Making a fence opening
large enough to allow a person to pass through or a vehicle to be driven through must be made considerably more difficult
or slow.
The entire site must be secured by a wall, a wire-mesh fence or a lattice fence at least 2 m high. Barbed wire (at least
two rows) should be attached to the top. Every type of fence must be fixed to the ground [cf. fig below].
The fence fronts should be as straight as possible and therefore follow a clear line
The fence routing line must be sufficiently illuminated overall
The route of the plant fence (inside and outside) is to be kept free of anything that could enable someone to climb
over (such as trees).
The site layout and any plants must be designed in such a way that they do not provide potential intruders with any
cover.
When selecting the fence system, the desired level of protection is to be taken into account. Wire-mesh fences can be
very easily and quickly opened and overcome. They are only suitable for sites with a low protection level.
Due to the low level of protection they offer, wire-mesh fences are to be checked daily for damage (openings, broken or
cut wires, etc.).
When new sites are set up or when existing areas are renovated or expanded, fences offering a high resistance time are
to be used.
The vertical round rods must be arranged on the outside of the fence to ensure that the horizontal ones cannot be
used to help climb the fence,
The posts are to be fixed in concrete foundations.
Fence mats to prevent the fence being crawled under. The mats are buried to a depth of 30 cm, or else use is made
of a strip foundation or buried curbstones.
Anti-creep protection is not required if the surfaces are fixed on both sides. Please note that the distance between
the wire panels and the floor is to be kept as small as possible.
Protection against the fence being climbed over by means of arms pointing outwards with sufficiently long protrusions
or barbed wire
If required, a device that allows the fence to be equipped with electronic monitoring systems, e.g. a U section to hide
line sensors (sensor cables).
Wire panels and other wire elements may not be unscrewable from the outside.
Alternatively to a mechanical anti-penetration protection, electronic monitoring of the periphery can be used. Prerequi-
sites as an alternative to anti-penetration protection:
1. For early detection of attacks, electronic monitoring systems are required (see 2.5.4 Electronic monitoring systems).
2. A fast reaction is only possible when the monitoring is connected to a continuously manned center (e.g. security and
emergency call center or front desk) and fast and targeted intervention can be arranged from there.
3. A fast intervention time is only possible when the intervention personnel have short distances to travel and carry out
targeted measures.
The entry and exit must be secured with a barrier and/or gate and must be monitored 24 hours a day. The design of
fence gates and doors must correspond to the level of protection offered by the boundary. It must be ensured that access
across rail lines via underpasses and tunnels is to be avoided.
The additional use of a video surveillance system allows alarms to be verified and a targeted and reasonable reaction to
alarms on the periphery to occur. In the case of false alarms, which can often occur outdoors due to environmental
factors, deployment and connected costs can be avoided.
When video surveillance systems are used, the local data protection regulations are to be taken into account and ob-
served.
Securing the vehicle areas with a system comprising detection systems and alarm verification via video surveillance offers
a consistently high level of security on the periphery and removes the need for personnel to go on patrol.
The respective safety concept must be presented to and accepted by the specialist departments at Daimler AG.
3. Space organization
3.1 Opening hours
For all Daimler locations, opening hours are – depending on the content of the contract – 24/7 (including vehicle check).
Deviating opening hours must be agreed bilaterally with SC/WT and put in writing. Visitors still must be recorded in
writing.
Important: Unauthorized personnel may not gain access to the parking area or the vehicles.
3.2 IT Systems
3.2.1 DISY
All locations must be connected to the Daimler Distribution System (DISY) by means of an EDI interface and must use
the system to report the arrival and departure times of vehicles.
1. Vehicle transshipment
When a vehicle is received, a receiving inspection is to be carried out in accordance with the appropriate chapter. In
addition, a truck unloading check is to be carried out.
The vehicle must be parked in 1st gear or in the "P" position with the handbrake applied.
All electrical consumers must be deactivated.
No labels may be present on the dashboard.
The windshields and other glass surfaces must not be marked, and, in particular, not be written on with crayons.
Windshield wipers are to be left in the basic position.
Bird excrement is to be removed from vehicles immediately.
With regard to key management, the chapter "General, 5. Key management)" is to be followed.

After vehicle release, the vehicles are to be checked for completeness or for theft in accordance with Chapter "4 Vehicle
hand-over" ("Hand-over at vehicle dispatch", "Visual check" and "Completeness check"). In the event of damage, chapter
"10. Damage handling" is to be followed.
Long-term parked vehicles are those passenger vehicles that, after final plant acceptance (plant, harbor, distribution
center) remain at one point in the distribution chain for longer than 6 weeks.
The following instructions are recommendations and must be agreed bilaterally with the marketing intermediary or MPC.
The vehicles must be washed. After the passenger vehicle has been washed, residual drops or rough film on the
paintwork, windows or trim are to be removed.
A visual check for serious early-stage rust is to be carried out.
The tire pressure is to be checked and adjusted to 3.5 bar.
BBAC specific: Analysis vehicle’s storage period, check tire pressure which storage period is over 30 days, deflated
tire should be recorded in “storage management document”, charge the tire to at least 3.2 bar, the max value is 3.5
bar; Send the excel version of tire pressure checking record to BBAC sales logistics at the beginning of month .
The brakes are also to be relieved. To do so, the brakes must be applied 3 times in succession. The effects of salt
water must also be removed from the brake discs.
Removal of "don’t open" stickers or "blue pads".
If adhesive residue remains on the paintwork after the "don't open" stickers or the "blue pads" have been removed, please
follow this procedure:
Treat the leftover adhesive with an adhesive remover or stain remover. Either spray the product directly onto the residue
or apply it carefully with a sponge or brush, let it take effect for a short while and then remove it with a sponge or
microfiber cloth. Please also observe the appropriate product information. The products listed under the following link
have been tested by Daimler AG with regard to compatibility of materials, work safety and protection of the environment
and can be recommended as being suitable for this purpose.
