The man that God chose to be
Jesus' earthly father and like
Mary, was entrusted to bring up
the Son of God. Joseph was a
very loyal follower of God and
was willing to follow God every
step of the way. A humble man,
cared for his wife.
Joseph willingly followed the
path God wanted for him.

Church:

Serving Families
Christian Living 6
“Ohana” is part of the Hawaiian culture that
means family; and family means nobody gets
left behind nor forgotten.
The Family:
Originating Context of Life

God wills all person to share in His divine life, to

become God’s people. The family is the basic means
for carrying out this plan, since it is “a community of
persons, serving life through procreation and
education of offspring, participating in the
development of society, and sharing in the mission of
the Church” (PCP II 575)
The Family:
Originating Context of Life

Moreover, this cooperative work of God and

the parents does not stop at birth but
continues all through the years of nurturing
and educating the child. (cf. CCC 2201-
2206)
The Family:
Originating Context of Life

Our Christian families, like the Church itself,

share in the communion of Persons and love
of the Blessed Trinity (cf. CCC 2205)
A family is not just
composed of a mother,
father, and children. Each
member has his or her
responsibilities in the family
In knowing one’s role in the family,
the unconditional love will be
present just like in the life of the Holy
Family – Joseph, Mary, and Jesus.
From the Gospel story of
Matthew, we see how Joseph
manifested his role as the father
and head of the family.

He protected and served them

without any condition.
Jesus, for His part, was an
obedient Son. He followed His
parents’ instructions and
counsels.
Mary, the blessed
mother, loved and
cared for Jesus, her Son
as a dutiful mother. She
trusted God with all her
heart.
Fulfilling one’s duty and responsibility
in the family is not easy. For us to do
this, We must seek inspiration from
the Holy family. Through the
intercession of the Holy Family, we
are able to know what is the
genuine meaning of unconditional
love to be able to serve one
another.
Activity: Summarize the lesson by writing a reflection, and thinking about and
giving positive characteristics that families possess to share in the community
of love through the Blessed Trinity. Form an acrostic based on the word family.
