FUTURE TENSES

I. SIMPLE FUTURE
1. Form:
(+) S + WILL+ V.
Ex: A. The phone is ringing.
B. I’ll answer the phone.
(-) S + WILL+ NOT+ V. (=WON’T)
Ex: We won’t visit Dalat next month.
(?)WILL + S + V? – YES, S + WILL./ NO, S+ WILL+ NOT.
Ex: Will we visit Dalat next month? – Yes, you will.
(?) WH-WORD + WILL+ S + V?
Ex: What will you do tonight?
2. Usage:
- A decision at the moment of speaking.
- A promise. Ex: I won’t tell anyone about your secret.
- An uncertain action in the future.
II. BE GOING TO:
1. Form:
(+) S + AM/ IS/ ARE +GOING TO + V.
Ex: We are going to visit Dalat next month.
(-) S + AM/ IS/ ARE + NOT+ GOING TO + V.
Ex: We aren’t going to visit Dalat next month.
(?)AM/ IS/ ARE + S + GOING TO + V? – YES, S + BE./ NO, S+ BE+ NOT.
Ex: Are we going to visit Dalat next month? – Yes, you are.
(?) WH-WORD + AM/ IS/ ARE + S + GOING TO+ V?
Ex: What are you going to do tonight?
2. Usage:
- A plan in the future
Ex: I have two cinema tickets. I’m going to watch a movie tonight.
- A prediction in the future
Ex: Look at those black clouds! It’s going to rain.
* Time expressions:
- next: next year, next summer ..
- someday, soon, in 2027, in two weeks ….
- I think/ I don’t think + simple future
