Roto-Guard
Drum
Screen/Thickener

PARKSON CORPORATION
SLUDGE THICKENING

The Roto-Guard Drum Screen/Thickener is a low-cost

rotary drum sludge thickener capable of reducing sludge
volumes up to 90%, thereby reducing sludge handling costs.
A typical application is thickening WAS at 0.5 to 1.0% feed
solids. With the addition of the appropriate polymer type
and dosage, thickening to 4-6 weight percent is achieved.

SCREENING

When used for screening applications, the Roto-Guard

Drum Screen/Thickener will remove a wide range of
suspended solids from a liquid stream. Because it is
mechanically self-cleaning, it is most effective on greasy
and oily applications or for fiber removal.

Perforation sizes vary depending on the application, and

by using a support drum, stainless steel mesh or polyester
cloths are available for the finest screening.

Splash hoods shown on

sanitary processing and
control of process odors.

APPLICATIONS ADVANTAGES
A. Thickening of sludges prior to: • Mechanically self-cleaning
Land Application • Low capital costs

PRINCIPAL OF OPERATION
FEED
The Roto-Guard Drum Screen/
Thickener consists of an internally
fed rotary drum (A) with an integral
internal screw (B) which transports
thickened sludge or screenings out
of the drum. The drum rotates on
permanently lubricated trunnion
wheels (C), and is driven by either a
variable or constant speed drive (D).

After (any) chemical conditioning,

the feed enters through an inlet
pipe (E) where it is gently fed to FILTRATE
the inside of the drum. The liquid
filtrate passes through the drum To prevent “blinding” of the drum
perforations into a collection surface, the unit is equipped with
trough (F), leaving thickened spray nozzles (not shown) and an
sludge or screenings on the inside optional rotating brush (H).
