Reflection on Planning this TED-Ed Lesson (to be submitted on Brightspace):

I. Introduction
1. What is your topic?
We chose making a lesson for how teachers can incorporate digitally equitable classroom
strategies

2. How is it related to K-12 education?

This topic is related to K-12 education because technology is being introduced to students
rapidly. With this teachers need to be held accountable to ensure that all students are receiving
the same benefits from the technology. When basic technology is introduced, there also needs to
be additional technology that will help students who may need it.
3. What is your purpose in this TED-Ed lesson?
The purpose of the TED-Ed lesson is to encourage teachers in creating a digital equitable
classroom and different tools to help them achieve this type of classroom.

II. Presenting your topic

1. Why is the topic important?
Digital equity in classrooms is important because in a world fueled by technology as educators
we need to ensure that all students have the same opportunities to learn.
2. What recent events or research have informed this topic (e.g., COVID)?
Covid has really brought this topic into the public eye. Also districts want to make schools more
digital rather than the old fashioned pen and paper.

III. Implications and recommendations

1. What are your ideas for addressing any problems or leveraging the potential?
Having administrators hold workshops to help remind teachers of their duties when they present
technology in their classrooms.
2. What still needs to be researched further?
The difficulties that teachers have faced in the past with digital equity.

IV. Planning your TED-Ed lesson

1. What video will you use?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLbkpUjyQt0
2. How will you introduce your lesson (quick lesson description)?
Digital equity is important to have in all classrooms where technology is present. It is also
important to teach students the difference between equity and equality. Once they understand the
difference it is a lot easier to shift the understanding of how this relates to technology.
3. What are three questions you can ask about your topic?
a. What are ways that districts and teachers can address the digital divide?
b. What are the most common issues that families struggle with because of the
digital divide?
c. What did digital equity mean prior to covid and how did the pandemic change
educators' thinking?
4. What two discussion questions can you provide about your topic?
a. What do students use to access the internet at home and in school, are they
provided with laptops, ipads, and or wifi if needed?
b. What are the best practices when trying to make sure all students have equitable
access to their digital education?
5. What conclusions can you make about your topic?
As our world continues to progress and as technology continues to encompass every aspect of
our lives we must make sure that children and families have equitable access to current tech as
well as wifi to make sure that children are all given a fair chance.
