B. Reason

Some existing flow indicators are vulnerable to fracturing which causes parts of the indicator to
separate. If this occurs, the oxygen cannot flow to the user of the mask when needed during an
emergency.

WARNING: THE USE OF OIL AND OTHER PETROLEUM BASE LUBRICANTS ON OXYGEN
EQUIPMENT WILL CREATE A DANGEROUS FIRE HAZARD.

CAUTION: THE WORK AREA MUST BE CLEAN AND FREE OF HYDROCARBON RESIDUE, OIL,
OR OTHER PETROLEUM BASE LUBRICANTS.

CAUTION: ALL INSTRUMENTS, TOOLS, FIXTURES, TEST EQUIPMENT, AND OTHER

MATERIALS WHICH COME INTO CONTACT EITHER DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY
WITH THE UNIT OR ITS PARTS SHOULD BE CLEAN AND FREE OF HYDROCARBON
RESIDUE, OIL, OR OTHER PETROLEUM BASE LUBRICANTS.

WARNING: BE CAREFUL TO CUT OFF ONLY A MINIMUM AMOUNT OF TUBING (1, 4). CUT OFF
NO MORE THAN TWO INCHES OF TUBING FROM BOTH TUBES (1, 4) TOGETHER.

(1) Cut the supply tube (4) loose from the flow indicator (2).

(2) Cut the flow indicator (2) loose from the mask bag assembly tube (1).

NOTE: Cut each tube (1, 4) square so that the end is flat and perpendicular to the axis of the tube
(1, 4).

C. Assembly (refer to Figure 3 unless otherwise stated)

WARNING: THE NEW FLOW INDICATOR (3) MUST BE INSTALLED SO THAT THE FLOW
DIRECTION IS FROM THE SUPPLY TUBE (4) TOWARD THE MASK BAG
ASSEMBLY TUBE (1). THE ARROW ON THE FLOW INDICATOR (3) SHOULD POINT
TOWARDS THE BAG. IF THE NEW FLOW INDICATOR (3) IS INSTALLED
BACKWARDS, THE FLOW INDICATOR WILL NOT SHOW WHEN OXYGEN FLOWS
TO THE MASK.

CAUTION: THE SUPPLY TUBE (4) AND THE MASK BAG ASSEMBLY TUBE (1) ENDS SHOULD
ALWAYS BE FULLY INSTALLED ON THE FLOW INDICATOR (3) UP TO THE
SHOULDER OF THE FLOW INDICATOR.
