ACTIVITY: Molding Moments: Clay as Art therapy for Self-Discovery

RATIONALE:
As a form of art therapy, clay modeling takes a broad approach to both self-expression
and healing. Fundamentally, it makes use of clay's tactile qualities to enable a dynamic
connection between the client and the medium. Using one's hands to form clay may be
a grounding method that helps people stay in the present moment and creates a
sensory experience that promotes mindfulness and relaxation.

Clay modeling's capacity to overcome verbal communication impediments is one of the

main justifications for its use as art therapy. Clay gives a nonverbal means of
expression for people who struggle to put their feelings or experiences into words. A
variety of actions, forms, and textures may be explored, each with its own symbolic
importance, thanks to the medium's malleability.

Moreover, the act of using clay may stimulate a feeling of autonomy and mastery,
especially for those who would otherwise feel helpless or overwhelmed by their
situation. People actively participate in a creative process that mirrors their inner ideas,
emotions, and ambitions as they mold and form the clay. This agency may be powerful,
giving rise to a renewed sense of self-awareness and confidence.

All things considered, using clay modeling as an art therapy provides a comprehensive
strategy for healing that unites the mind, body, and soul. Through utilizing clay's
creative potential, people may go beyond the confines of conventional talk therapy and
explore new avenues for self-expression and healing.

MECHANICS:
1. Set Up Your Workspace: Make sure your workspace is tidy and cozy before
beginning any clay work. To protect your work surface, place a plastic tablecloth or
some newspaper down.
2.assemble your supplies: a block of clay (air-dry or oven-bake clay works well), a piece
of acrylic sheet or a wooden board for a flat surface, and some basic sculpting tools, if
you have any on hand (though your fingers work just as well!).
3.Establish Your Intention: Consider the ideas or concepts you want to convey or
investigate with your clay sculpture. It may be anything else on your mind, such as a
connection, memory, feeling, or thought.

4.Start Sculpting: Using your hands, start forming the clay, following your instincts.
There's no right or wrong way to approach this; just be creative.
5.Investigate Texture and Form: Try expressing your ideas and emotions via various
textures and shapes. To produce intriguing textures, you may use everyday objects or
even tools like chopsticks and toothpicks.
6.After finishing your clay sculpture, give it some thought and consider the process you
went through. Think about your personal interpretation of the sculpture and how it
connects to your inner life.
7.Optional: Discuss and Share: If it makes you feel better, you can show your therapist
or a dependable friend or relative your clay model. Discussing your invention with
others might help you understand it better and offer insightful advice.

ACTIVITY: Coloring as an Art Therapy Enhanced by Music

RATIONALE:
Given that music therapy and coloring engage different parts of the brain—music
therapy stimulating the auditory and emotional centers, while coloring stimulates the
visual cortex—combining the two can lead to a deeper level of emotional expression
and relaxation—music therapy enhancing creativity and mood, while coloring providing
a tangible outlet for expression. Moreover, the rhythmic and repetitive nature of
coloring can synchronize with the rhythmic patterns in music, creating a harmonious
and immersive experience that reduces stress and promotes mindfulness.

MECHANICS:
1. *Set the Scene*: Establish a tranquil setting that encourages rest and creativity. Play
relaxing music, adjust the lights, and make sure everyone is seated comfortably.

2. *Select Materials*: Offer a variety of coloring supplies, coloring books or pages.

Make sure the supplies are high-quality and supportive of artistic expression.

3. *Music Selection*: Make a playlist of instrumental tunes or sounds from nature that
are recognized to have relaxing and healing properties. An alternative is to create a
playlist according to the attendees' tastes.

4. Initiate the workshop with a quick mindfulness practice aimed at promoting

relaxation and centering participants through mindful breathing. Urge them to breathe
deeply and assist them in concentrating on the here and now.

5. *Get Coloring*: Give participants the opportunity to select their coloring supplies and
get to work. Motivate them to concentrate on the tactile aspects of the task: the feel of
the paper, the way their hand moves, and the colors that appear on the page.

6. *Sync with Music*: Play the chosen music subtly in the background as the
participants color. To improve the meditation experience, encourage them to time their
movements and breathing to the music.

7. *Encourage Expression*: Encourage participants to freely express themselves

through the colors, patterns, and designs they choose throughout the session. Remind
the clients that coloring is a form of personal expression and that there are no right or
wrong colors.

8. *Reflective Pause*: After the coloring session, stop the music and ask the

participants to consider what they just experienced. Invite them to share any ideas,
feelings, or realizations that came to them while doing the exercise.

ACTIVITY: Calculating Wellness: Using Math Exercises for Mental Health Therapy

RATIONALE:
There are various advantages to doing arithmetic activities as therapy. The first benefit
is that it challenges the mind, offering a cognitive diversion from depressing or anxious
thoughts. Furthermore, it facilitates concentration and focus, which is very
advantageous for people who have trouble paying attention. As people overcome
difficult challenges, solving mathematical puzzles may also help them feel more
confident and good about themselves. As people approach each difficulty
systematically, it may also act as a kind of mindfulness, encouraging people to remain
in the present moment. In general, by using the brain, creating a feeling of
achievement, and encouraging mindfulness, computation exercises can provide an
organized and effective means to enhance mental health.

MECHANICS:
1. Setup: Each player receives a set of cards or tiles with numbers on them. The numbers
should be random and range from, for example, 1 to 100.
2. Objective: The goal is to arrange the numbers in descending order, from highest to lowest,
as quickly as possible.
3. Gameplay: Players start with their cards or tiles facing down. - On the count of three,
players flip their cards over and begin arranging them. They can only use one hand to move the
cards around. Players can either arrange the numbers individually or slide entire rows or
columns to rearrange the sequence. - The first player to successfully arrange all their numbers
in descending order shouts "Done!" and wins the round.
4. Variations: Time limits can be set for each round to add urgency. - Players can compete
against each other in real-time or play individually for the fastest time. Different difficulty levels
can be introduced by increasing the range of numbers or adding more numbers to arrange.
5. Scoring: Players earn points based on their completion time, with faster times earning
higher scores. - Alternatively, players can earn points based on the accuracy of their
arrangement, with fewer mistakes resulting in higher scores.
6. Strategy: Players must balance speed with accuracy, as rushing to complete the
arrangement could result in mistakes that cost time to correct. Memorizing the initial layout of
the numbers before flipping the cards over can help players plan their moves more efficiently.

ACTIVITY: Tell Me More!

RATIONALE:
Because it has so many therapeutic effects, "Five Facts Challenge" is a useful game therapy
tool. People can experience cognitive stimulation while playing this game, which helps with
quick recall of knowledge and improves memory retention and cognitive abilities. This is
especially advantageous for people who have dementia or moderate cognitive impairment. A
sense of connection and belonging is also encouraged by the game's built-in social interaction,
which also helps with communication skills development and reduces depressive and lonely
sensations. Additionally, the game offers a way to decompress and have fun while providing a
little reprieve from everyday stresses. As players display their skills and expertise, they gain a
sense of accomplishment and validation from their performance in the game, which boosts their
confidence and sense of self.

MECHANICS:
Objective: Players must list five facts about a given specific topic within a time limit.

Gameplay:

1. Each player takes turns being the "fact giver" and the "fact guesser."

2. The fact giver selects a specific topic (e.g., "Types of dinosaurs," "Capital cities in Europe,"
"Famous painters," etc.).

3. The fact guesser then has a set amount of time (e.g., 1 minute) to list five facts about the
given topic.

4. If the fact guesser successfully lists five facts within the time limit, they earn a point.

5. If they cannot list five facts within the time limit, or if any of the facts listed are incorrect,
they do not earn a point.

6. Players take turns being the fact giver and fact guesser until a predetermined number of
rounds is reached, or until one player reaches a certain number of points.
