KADANG-KADANG SA BAO

Kadang-kadang sa Bao, also known as “simple play,” is an outdoor game from the Philippines, that is
played with the use coconut shell stilts. It is through this game that social connection, physical activity,
and value of preserving culture is encouraged, which is important in one’s holistic development.

Participants:
Six (6) Teams (3 players for each grade level starting from grade 7 to grade 12, comprising a total of 18
players)

Mechanics:

1. All six (6) competing teams are required to arrive at the venue at least 15 minutes prior to the
scheduled start time.
2. Each team must ensure the presence of all three (3) players without exception. Failure to comply
will result in disqualification. Except in cases of unforeseen emergencies or accidents,
substitutions from the original players are prohibited.
3. There should be one (1) leader for each team.
4. The game will begin once the facilitators have given the signal to do so.
5. Players of each team should form a line on the designated starting point before the game begins.
6. Once the game begins, the first person in line must maneuver from the starting line to the
designated stopping point, then return to the starting line before passing the coconut shell stilts
to the next player in line.
7. The player should tap the hand of the next player in line to indicate his/her completion of
his/her part.
8. The current participant must then pass on the coconut shell stilts to the awaiting player in the
relay. Repeat (instruction number 7) until the three (3) players of team have done their part to
complete the game.
9. The first team to complete the game will be the winner.
10. Should any coconut shell stilts become damaged during use, a replacement set will be supplied
(if available), prompting the current participant to recommence their leg of the race.
11. Questions will be entertained before the game begins.
12. The facilitators’ decision is final.
