CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION
One problem that student-athletes may face is the difficulty of balancing their academic and athletic
responsibilities. Students who don't use their time well and focus only on their sport lag behind in their studies.
Many people think it's concerning when athletes perform poorly in school. On the other side, one of the issues
that frequently affects student-athletes is that they may be putting more of an emphasis on athletics than on their
academics. This may have an impact on how well they do on academic tasks like homework, tests, and exams.
According to Billonid's account 2020), being a student athlete is difficult. The quality of their academic work
may suffer if they prioritize practicing for sports above studying. It's really difficult to be an athlete and a
student at the same time. As a result, student-athletes might find it difficult to manage their academics and
sports because of their hectic schedules. Rahmat, Nabilah.and Zulkifli. (2022).
Researchers defined that time management is a crucial thing among students. Students who practice effective
time management can accomplish more in less time because their attention is focused, and they are not
distracted by the other thing. As student cross items off their to-do list, effective time management also will
reduce stress. Fulfilling goals may also bring a sense of satisfaction. Rahmat, Nabilah., and Zulkifli. (2022).
This study aims to explore the experiences of senior high student- athletes in terms of learning and time
management. The study will employ a qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach. The
research will be conducted using convenience sampling to select participants who are senior high school
student-athletes. The study is essential as it will provide insights into how student-athletes balance their
academic and athletic responsibilities, which can be used to develop programs that support student- athletes'
academic success.
CHAPTER 2
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURES
There is a received wisdom that the student experiences of student-athletes are deficient and that student-
athletes are, and are treated as, athletes first and students second. We surveyed student-athletes at 18 Division
IA (major football programs) schools to learn from them what they experience as students and how they assess
those experiences. Student-athlete responses showed a generally positive picture of college life. Potuto, J. J. R.,
& O'Hanlon, J. (2007).
Recruitment is a vital component for any college or university. Recruiting top student-athletes is even more
strategic due to the potential increase in undergraduate admissions and booster donations that a championship
season may bring. While much research has been conducted related to the factors influencing the choice of
college, there is limited research focusing on college choice factors of student-athletes. Additionally, a majority
of the research focusing on college choice factors of student-athletes does not address those student-athletes at
top Division I-A institutions. The present study sought to determine if the factors that influence the college
choice of high level students-athletes was different than research results focusing on non-athletes. The findings
of this study suggest that, although student-athletes have different factors that influence college choice, non-
athletic related factors as just as important as athletic related factors. These findings are valuable to the
successful recruitment of student-athletes and may mean the difference between successful and unseccessful
