IFP2 (Movie Reflection)

“Uliran (1998)”
The highlight of the movie entitled “Uliran” is the persistent faith of Mother Ignacia. The movie “Uliran”
tells the story about the life of Mother Ignacia. Mother Ignacia was born on February 2, 1662 and her
mother is Maria Jeronima while his father is Jusepe Luco. Mother Ignacia was raised from religious
family and then she discovered the calling of God for her. Mother Ignacia and Beaterio De La Compania
De Jesus established a religious community way back in 17th century and we call it today as the
Congregation of the Religious of the Virgin Mary.

As we can see in this movie, Mother Ignacia took the courage to leave the kind of life she has with her
family just to seek what’s really the purpose of God in her life. When Mother Ignacia was 21 years old,
she was faced with the decision of whether or not to marry, as her parents expected her. In addition,
Mother Ignacia doesn’t want to disappoint her parents and because of the calling she receive from God,
Mother Ignacia decided to take counsel from Fr. Paul Klein. Fr. Paul Klein gave Mother Ignacia a
Spiritual Expertise of St. Ignatius. After the few days of being alone and prayer, Mother Ignacia was
inspired by God to continue in the of the Divine Majesty.

We can see the dedication of Mother Ignacia to the calling of God to her. She sacrifices her life before just
to see and accept the calling of God. We all know how difficult to Mother Ignacia, every time she was
asked about “How will she live?” or “How will she survive” after the decision she made, but despite of
being worried, she always says that she will live by the sweat of her brows with the guidance of our
Almighty God. Mother Ignacia’s dedication has brought her to where is she and who is she now.

Mother Ignacia gave up her life just to answer her calling to God. She spent her life in helping people and
educating them. As a Marian student, I realized that we can also do what she did like helping people but
we don’t literally need to follow the path that Mother Ignacia took.

As I end this reflection, the movie “Uliran” reminds us that we conduct our life not in accordance with
our own will, but in accordance with the will of our Almighty God and never get distracted by life’s
challenges, because these are the stepping stones to achieve the life that God gave us. Mother Ignacia
proves that giving our life, showing our dedication in praising our God, and strengthening our faith to
him, he will give the life that we deserve.
