Welcome to StuffIt Standard Edition

Welcome to StuffIt Standard Edition 12. All of us at Smith Micro would like to thank you for buying (or trying) this product. This document contains information about installing StuffIt Standard, and includes last minute information that did not make it into the Electronic Help files. System Requirements StuffIt Standard 12 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later. We recommend that you keep your version of Mac OS X current by installing all the latest software updates made available from Apple. Stuffit 12.0.1 includes a number of performance and stability enhancements and addresses several Leopard compatibility issues. Installing StuffIt Standard Edition 12 StuffIt Standard 12 uses a Drag and Drop installation method. To install StuffIt Standard, simply drag and drop the "StuffIt 12" folder from the mounted disk image to your Applications folder. About Your Evaluation Period The version of StuffIt Expander that is included in StuffIt Standard Edition is free software. You can continue to use it for as long as you like without having to pay a registration fee. DropStuff is not free software. You can use DropStuff for up to 30 days for evaluation purposes. After the 30 day evaluation period has expired, if you'd like to continue using DropStuff you must purchase a license. You can buy a license for DropStuff online: http://www.allume.com/store/index.html If you continue to use DropStuff beyond the 30 day evaluation period certain features, including encryption, FTP and .Mac uploads, and CD/DVD burning, will be disabled. These features will be re-enabled if you pay for DropStuff at a later date. Changes in 12.0.1 Fixed an issue where DropStuff's Segment menu was disabled under Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) Fixed an issue where DropStuff wouldn't auto-quit after finishing a

compression operation. Fixed an issue where StuffIt Expander wouldn't auto-quit after finishing an expansion operation when using the "Watch Folder" feature. Fixed an issue that prevented expansion of Compact Pro archives that contained a comment. Fixed an issue that prevented complete expansion of some older StuffIt 5 archives. Fixed an issue that prevented expansion of some older self-extracting Zip archives (.exe). Troubleshooting Tips: If you are upgrading from a previous version: The "Drag and Drop" installation method will not remove any older versions of StuffIt. Please delete any older versions of StuffIt applications manually. If you have difficulties with any StuffIt 12 applications. Try deleting any older StuffIt preference files from the /Library/Preferences directory and your user's ~/Library/Preference directory. StuffIt plist files are typically named com.stuffit.xxxxxxxx.plist where xxxxxxxx is the name of the application that uses the preference file. Register your Software! Please take the time to register your software with Smith Micro. Registration entitles you to receive technical support, and also enables us to notify you when updates to your software become available.
