COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course is pursuant to Republic Act 9163, otherwise known as the National Service Training Act of 2001, which mandates tertiary educational institutions to
incorporate in the collegiate curriculum a program aimed at “enhancing civic consciousness and defense preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of service and
patriotism while undergoing training in any of its three (3) program components, namely Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), Literacy Training Service (LTS) and Reserved
Officers Training Course (ROTC)”. It also inculcates in the youth “patriotism, nationalism, and advance their involvement in public and civic affairs”. These will require students to
carry out projects and activities contributory to the general welfare and the betterment of life of the community members or enhancement of facilities especially in terms of
improving health, education, safety, livelihood, environment entrepreneurship, recreation, moral, patriotism, and nationalism of the citizenry, and other social welfare services.
Literacy Training Service (LTS) is a program designed to train students to become teachers of literacy and numeracy skills to school children, out of school youth, and other
segments of society in need of their service (Sec. 3c).

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, the students are expected to:
1. Demonstrate understanding of the Introduction to NSTP, self-awareness and values development, concepts of leadership; application of good citizenship, drug education,
environmental protection, and national security concerns using mother tongue, Filipino and English to facilitate learning;
2. Demonstrate comprehension of suffrage and election, health, values development, youth for sustainable development and gender development by applying strategies that
develop creative and critical thinking;
3. Demonstrate understanding of the different exercises; develop knowledge, skills and values through the teaching and learning exercises
4. Demonstrate the acquisition of the sense of volunteerism or community service for community development;
4. Implement literacy and numeracy program in a community.
