SECTION 02000
SITE DEMOLITION

PART 1 – GENERAL

1.1 SCOPE OF WORK

The Work includes furnishing all labor, materials, tools and equipment
required for the demolition, removal and disposal, including salvaging of
materials, complete.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Demolition Plan

B. Notifications

C. Submit proposed salvage, demolition and removal procedures to the


Engineer for approval before work is started.

The procedures proposed for the accomplishment of salvage and


demolition or removal work shall be submitted for approval. The
procedures shall provide for safe conduct of the work, careful removal
and disposition of materials specified to be salvaged, protection of
property which to remain undisturbed, coordination with other work in
progress, and timely disconnection of utility services.

1.3 AVAILABILITY OF WORK AREAS

Areas in which salvage and demolition works are to be accomplished will


be available upon receipt by the Contractor of notice to proceed from the
Engineer.

1.4 PROTECTION

The Contractor shall exercise the greatest care in protecting existing


structures, materials and piping while proceeding with work under this
Section. All repairs required because of damage from the Contractor’s
operations shall be at the expense of the Contractor and no claims for
additional payment will be accepted.

1.5 DISCONNECTION OF UTILITY SERVICES

Utilities shall be disconnected at the points directed. Where such


disconnection will interrupt the utility services to an area not included in
the contract, arrangements for such interruption shall be made with the
Engineer at least 24 hours in advance of the interruption.

1.6 DUST CONTROL

The amount of dust resulting from the salvage and removal operations
shall be controlled to prevent the spread of dust to adjoining properties
and occupants, the public in general, passing vehicles and workmen and
to avoid creation of a nuisance in the surrounding area.

1.7 USE OF EXPLOSIVES

The use of explosives will not be permitted.

1.8 BURNING

The use of burning at the project site for the disposal of refuse and
debris will not be permitted.

1.9 MECHANICAL DEMOLITION

The use of mechanical device such as weight balls or power shovels will
not be permitted.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 Salvage

Items designated to be salvage or saved shall be carefully removed,


cleaned of all dust, dirt, and foreign matter, and delivered to the Owner’s
storage area.

3.2 Existing Facilities to be Removed

A. Utilities and Related Equipment

Remove existing utilities as indicated or uncovered by work and


terminate in a manner conforming to the nationally recognized code
covering the specific utility and approved by the Engineer. Remove
materials and related equipment and deliver to a location in
accordance with the instructions of the Engineer. If utility lines are
encountered that are not shown on drawings, contact the Engineer
for further instructions.

B. Masonry

Sawcut and remove masonry so as to prevent damage to surfaces


and to facilitate the installation of new work. Where new masonry
adjoins existing, the new work shall abut or tie into the existing
construction as specified for the new work.

C. Concrete

Saw concrete along straight lines to a depth of not less than 50 mm.
Make each cut in walls perpendicular to the face and in alignment
with the cut in the opposite face. Break out the remainder of the
concrete provided that the broken area is concealed in the finished
work, and the remaining concrete is sound. At locations where the
broken face cannot be concealed, grind smooth or saw cut entirely
through the concrete.

3.3 Disposition of Materials

Materials not indicated or specified to be salvaged shall be disposed of


by the Contractor outside the limits of Owner’s property at his
responsibility.

3.4 Cleanup

Remove and transport debris and rubbish in a manner that will prevent
spillage on streets or adjacent areas. Limit to 1/4 cubic meter capacity
buggies or other conveyances used on roofs and within the building to
transport removed debris. Clean up spillage from streets and adjacent
areas.
