Update 32“ 3D Full HD Monitor PV648 to revision V38001
1.1 General information
On some PV648 3D monitors it was recognized, that the mode “Simultaneous” which is used to visualize a
3D image was not working properly. Therefore a firmware update of the PV648 is necessary.

The following PV648 3D Full HD monitors need to be updated to the firmware version V3.8001:
SN23351033, SN23371033, SN23372033, SN23363033, SN23367033, SN23369033, SN23364033,
SN23368033, SN23357033, SN23359033, SN23358033, SN23360033, SN23366033, SN23361033,
SN23362033, SN23365033, SN23451043, SN23457043, SN23472043, SN23477043, SN23350033,
SN23355033, SN23375033, SN23379033, SN23353033, SN23354033, SN23374033, SN23376033,
SN23352033, SN23373033, SN23377033, SN23378033, SN23501053, SN23509053, SN23464043 and
SN23467043

Note: If you receive a new PV648 from central stock Tuttlingen with a yellow dote on the packaging label,
the firmware update was already carried out and not further actions are required.

1.2 System requirements

1. Laptop or desktop PC with Microsoft® Windows 10 (64 bit), .NET Framework 3.5
2. RS232C cable or USB-RS232C cable
3. Update firmware software “FirmwareUpdateToolForEndoscope”

1.3 Implementation of the firmware update

1. Connect the laptop or desktop PC via the RS232C or USB/RS232C cable to the 32” 3D Full HD
monitor PV648.

2. Launch the firmware update tool “FirmwareUpdateToolFor Endoscope” by double clicking on the
icon

3. Select the “Connect” button and select the COM port of your laptop/desktop PC. Once the
connection is detected, the “OK” button appears. The baud rate is set to 115200 bps. The tool au-
tomatically checks the type of monitor and its initial firmware version. If either the type or the
firmware version is not foreseen to be updated, a warning message is displayed, see chapter “1.4
Troubleshooting”.

4. Press the button “Write FW” to launch the update process. The firmware update takes about 5
minutes and the status is displayed in the status bar.

5. During the firmware update process the following message will appear:

Important note:
Don’t press the “OK” button. Just wait until the firmware update was finished automatically!!
If occasionally be pressed too early it might be necessary to repeat the firmware update process.

6. Once the firmware update was carried out successfully, the following message appears:

7. Switch off & on the monitor. Once the monitor has been restarted the same message as described
in step 5 will appear. Click now on the “OK” button. If the firmware update was successfully, it is
displayed on the screen.

8. Click on the “Disconnect” button and remove the RS232C respectively USB/RS232C cable.

After the firmware update please check that the input port (Input Select SDI/HDMI etc.) and the visualization image
(3D/2D Selection = 3D, Signal Format “Simul” on the PV648 3D monitor is defined correctly.

1.4 Troubleshooting
Please refer to the table for troubleshooting during the firmware update process.

Warning message Description

No communication between the laptop/desktop PC and

the PV648 monitor.
1. Verify, that right COM port is used
2. Check cable connection
3. Check monitor power status

The model ID of the monitor is not available as target.

The firmware version of the monitor is not available as

target.
The message is also displayed if the update was already
carried out on an existing monitor.

The firmware update was not successfully carried out.

The firmware version was not changed!
Please repeat the firmware update!
