Reflective Journal#1

My starting journey and experiences of the first 2 weeks of the Business Communication
course under the supervision of Prof. Anne Mullen are excellent. In our first lecture, I was
thrilled that the dessert served by the professor was one of the best factors to ease the barrier
in classroom communication. By this time, I have learned so many new things and concepts
about communication. Therefore, I understood how impactful this course will be in settling
my new life here in Canada both personally & professionally. I strongly believe the impact
of culture and the intelligence I adopt in my personal life through this course will help me
to embrace diversity & inclusion anywhere in the world.

In our first lecture, I enjoyed the iceberg concept, as we all are surrounded by our own
beliefs, values, feelings, attitudes, and biases. I also learned how we can develop cultural
intelligence, a mindset of inclusion and communication in a diverse work environment. I
also enjoyed my first ever Kahoot game on an academic platform. In our second lecture, I
enjoyed the leadership communication framework and learned about communication
reality/interruptions. On top of that, video links from our lectures helped me to better
understand the importance of effective and ethical communication in any setup. Both of
our first two sessions closed with an effortful group activity, which personally helped me
to know better about my classmates, the culture & beliefs they carry and their shared
experiences. I would suggest this lecture should continue a little bit more than the usual
timeframe as it is interactive and I enjoy the whole session.
