Introduction

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the world, and the Philippines
is no exception. Filipino nurses have been on the frontlines of the pandemic, providing
care to patients with COVID-19 and other illnesses. They have also been exposed to
the virus at a higher rate than other healthcare workers.

This research paper will examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Filipino
nurses, including the following data:

 Philippine nursing school enrollment and graduate trends

 National Licensure Examination for Nurses (NCLEX) takers and passers
 NCLEX takers and passers in other countries
 Healthcare impact in the Philippines, including the number of infected of COVID-
19

The paper will also discuss the measurement and mitigation plan by the Philippine
government for the impact of COVID-19 on Filipino nurses.

Background

The Philippines is one of the leading exporters of nurses in the world. In 2020, there
were an estimated 1.2 million Filipino nurses working overseas, making up about 10%
of the global nursing workforce.

Filipino nurses are highly skilled and dedicated professionals. They are known for their
compassion, hard work, and willingness to go the extra mile. However, they are also
often underpaid and overworked.

The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the challenges faced by Filipino nurses. The
virus has spread rapidly in the Philippines, and nurses have been on the frontlines of
the fight against the pandemic. They have been exposed to the virus at a higher rate
than other healthcare workers, and many have become infected.

In addition to the health risks, the pandemic has also taken a toll on the mental and
emotional well-being of Filipino nurses. They have been working long hours in stressful
conditions, and they have seen many patients die from COVID-19.

Statement of the Problem/Objectives

The main objective of this research paper is to examine the impact of the COVID-19
pandemic on Filipino nurses. The specific objectives of the study are to:

 Analyze the trends in Philippine nursing school enrollment and graduate rates
 Identify the factors that have contributed to the decline in NCLEX pass rates
 Assess the healthcare impact of COVID-19 in the Philippines, including the
number of infected nurses
 Develop a measurement and mitigation plan for the impact of COVID-19 on
Filipino nurses

Literature Review

A number of studies have been conducted on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on
nurses. These studies have found that nurses have been disproportionately affected by
the pandemic, both in terms of their health and their mental well-being.

One study found that Filipino nurses working in the United States were more likely to be
infected with COVID-19 than other healthcare workers. The study also found that
Filipino nurses were more likely to experience symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Another study found that the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a decline in NCLEX pass
rates for Filipino nurses. The study attributed this decline to the increased stress and
workload faced by nurses during the pandemic.

Methodology

This research paper will use a quantitative and qualitative approach to examine the
impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Filipino nurses. The quantitative data will be
collected from government agencies, nursing schools, and professional organizations.
The qualitative data will be collected from interviews with Filipino nurses.

The quantitative data will be used to analyze the trends in Philippine nursing school
enrollment and graduate rates, and to identify the factors that have contributed to the
decline in NCLEX pass rates. The qualitative data will be used to assess the healthcare
impact of COVID-19 in the Philippines, including the number of infected nurses, and to
develop a measurement and mitigation plan for the impact of COVID-19 on Filipino
nurses.

Conclusion

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on Filipino nurses. The pandemic
has led to an increase in the workload and stress of nurses, as well as a shortage of
personal protective equipment (PPE). This has put nurses at a higher risk of infection
and has also taken a toll on their mental and emotional well-being.

The pandemic has also had a negative impact on the Philippine healthcare system. The
shortage of nurses has led to understaffing in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
This has made it difficult for nurses to provide quality care to patients.

The government has taken some steps to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on
nurses. These steps include providing financial assistance to nurses and their families,
and increasing the number of nurses in training. However, more needs to be done to
address the challenges faced by Filipino nurses.

The following are some recommendations for mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on
Filipino nurses:

 Provide adequate PPE to all nurses.

 Offer mental health support to nurses.
 Increase salaries and benefits for nurses.
 Reduce workload for nurses.
 Support family and friends of nurses.
 Invest in training more nurses.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of nurses. Nurses are
essential to the healthcare system, and they deserve to be supported and protected.
The recommendations above are a starting point for mitigating the impact of the
pandemic on Filipino nurses.

In addition to the recommendations above, it is also important to address the underlying

factors that have contributed to the vulnerability of Filipino nurses to COVID-19. These
factors include low wages, poor working conditions, and lack of job security. The
government and employers need to take steps to address these factors in order to
improve the working conditions for nurses and to protect them from the risk of infection.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenging time for Filipino nurses. However,
nurses have shown great resilience and dedication in the face of adversity. They have
continued to provide care to patients, even at great personal risk. The government and
employers need to do more to support nurses and to ensure that they are safe and
healthy.
