• To better understand our new homeland, you need to know the name of your new

homeland first. Your new homeland is called China. There are also some facts you need to
know about(facts that will be helpful for you). The problem is that if you can’t speak
chinese, you could be swindled .(For example, if the owner found out that you don’t
understand chinese, he or she might lie to you and say a eraser costs 50 yuan). If you
don’t want this kind of things to happen to you, you better know some chinese.

• The first fact is that everything here is super super cheap. Unlike other countries such as
Korea, where we need a thousand and something(won)to take the bus, we only need 1
RMB paper money, coin or money from Wechat(an app used to communicate with each
other in China) pay to take the bus. In China, we can use 1000RMB to buy a plane ticket,
sleep in a hotel for a night or buy a Chinese brand phone. There might be some money
left after doing all of this things.

• The second fact is that China’s breakfast culture is well established. So there’s no way your
going to died because of hungriness. As I said in the last page, all the things are cheap so
don’t worry. And they taste wonderful. They taste sweet, sour, salty and watery. My
favorite Chinese morning drink is soymilk. My favorite Chinese breakfast is stir-fried
shredded meat with green pepper and flower roll. You must try these foods!

• The third fact you need to know for sure is that do not ever go anywhere on Chinese
national holidays because if you go trip on that day, there will be a lot of people trying to
go into or look at the place. When I went to Beijing on a Chinese national holiday, I saw
more than 1000 people in a place that day. You better be careful you might get hurt if
you don’t believe me.

• The last fact is that you don’t need to pay tax to the government. Isn’t it a very good
thing? No tax! You can have all your money you earned from your work. You can buy or
do things you want.

• These are the things you must be aware about before going out of the airport. My
presentation is done until here. Have a safe, happy and nice life here in your new
homeland, China, Qingdao.

General Comment: Very good! Although it’s a script for a speech, you have to state your
claim at the end of the introduction; in other words, provide a thesis statement! 

Introduction: Remember the lesson we’ve covered last week; in the introduction, all the parts
including Prelude + Shared Context + Problem (Condition/Cost) + Main Claim/Point should
be written! Although you’ve mentioned the problem part, the danger of not understanding
Chinese, it’s not enough for the readers to share the problem as their own. Think about
some negative causes and consequences that the immigrants have to know before living in
China.

When you’re finished with the writing, try to read it aloud as you revise it; that’s the best
way to improve your writing!!

Vocabulary: I’ve attached a vocabulary file; it’s quite useful for writers! Review 2-3 pages a
day and try to use the words in your own essay! And Review the following expressions with
a certain preposition!
