Engine Maintenance
EXAMPLE:
Suppose there is a part in the ignition system that will be worn out very soon but
because you conduct regular engine maintenance you have notice it then repair or replace it
before trouble occur.
1. Light once over check of the engine that takes in only the more obvious trouble spot.
2. The use of proper engine testing instrument to do a careful and complete analysis of an
engine component.
3. The process of adjusting everything to specification
4. The engine maintenance which includes repairing or replacing all worn out parts.
1. CHECKING OF BATTERY
a. Electrolyte level of each cell
b. Specific gravity of electrolyte level use hydrometer tester.
c. Check voltage by using voltmeter.
2. CHECKING OF COOLANT (VISUAL)
a. Coolant level inside the radiator
b. Presence of coolant in the level.
c. Leak in the radiator
3. CHECKING OF BELT
a. Cracks
b. Belt tension
4. CLEANING OF AIR CLEANER ELEMENT.
5. CHECKING OF ENGINE OIL.
a. Oil quantity
b. Oil level
6. CHECKING OF SPRAY PLUG
a. Condition of spark plug
b. Spark plug gap.
7. CONTACT POINT
a. Checking
b. Cleaning
c. Adjusting
8. ENGINE TIMING OR IGNITION TIMING

10. CHECKING OF FUEL FILTER.
11. CHECKING OF TIRE INFLATION.
12. CHECKING OF EXHAUST SYSTEM.
13. CHECKING OF BRAKE AND CLUTCH FLUID.
14. ROAD TESTING OF VEHICLE.
NOTE: Valve clearance adjustment and overhauling of carburetor are included in major tune-
up.
NOTE: In gasoline engine needs major tune up every 5,000 km. running. And replacing the parts
make necessary adjustment like dwell angle, ignition timing, revolution per minute or R.P.M.
etc.
