Accelerated Resource Pack for Early Sitters

Grade VIII

1
Guide Lines for Teachers

This resource pack is designed to cater early sitters for grade VIII. The topics
included are carefully selected for bridging the learning gaps of student and
developing skills for APSIS stream. The careful selection of topics is done by
focusing on the alignment with Cambridge syllabus of Science (Physics,
Chemistry, Biology).

Following are few guidelines for the teachers;

i. Most of the worksheets are designed to promote active learning.

However, teachers need to introduce the topics through prior
reading, short lecture or video.

ii. Teachers may utilize the worksheets while planning the class
activities for students.

iii. One worksheet may be used for multiple lessons considering the
students need and allocation of the lessons

iv. These are only few samples for teacher’s guidance; however,
teachers may have the liberty to design their own worksheets as per
needs and demands of their learners based on these

Note: The worksheets consist of MCQs, fill in the blanks, True/False, and
match the columns SRQS, labelling of diagrams, Flowcharts etc.

Worksheet 1
Topic: Light

Name: _____________________________ Sec: ___________

By attempting this worksheet, learners will be able to: -

Explain the basic properties of light, including its nature as a form of electromagnetic
radiation, the speed of light, and its ability to travel in straight lines, Colour and Light
Spectrum:
Q-1: In the diagrams below, measure the angle of incidence and the angle of reflection.
You will need a protractor. You will also need a pencil and a ruler to complete two of
the diagrams.
A

Angle of incidence = __________ Angle of reflection = B __________

1
Angle of incidence = __________ Angle of reflection = C __________

Angle of incidence = __________ Angle of reflection = __________

Q-2: The three diagrams below (in the left-hand column) show how a ray of light is refracted
as it passes through a glass block. Unfortunately, all of the diagrams are incorrect.
Your task is to decide why each diagram is incorrect, and then to complete the
diagram on the right to show how you would expect the ray to be refracted.
For each diagram, give the code (A, B or C) from the table below to show why the
diagram is incorrect.

Code Reason
A A ray travelling along the normal does not bend.
B A ray entering glass bends towards the normal.
C A ray leaving glass bends away from the normal.

Incorrect diagram Corrected diagram

Q-3: Your task is to devise a quiz to test other members of your class. How well do they
understand the spectrum of white light?
Complete the table below as follows: for each letter in the first column, choose a word
which begins with that letter, and which has something to do with the spectrum. Then
write a clue to which the answer is that word.
The first one has been done for you, as an example. You will have to think of another
word beginning with R, lower down in the table.
There are two empty rows at the end of the table for you to add your own ideas.
Clue Solution

end of the spectrum to violet?
