Parag Agrawal

Parag Agrawal (born 21 May 1984) is an Indian-American technology executive, and the chief
executive officer (CEO) of Twitter since November
2021. Agrawal joined Twitter as a software engineer in “The best way to predict future is to create it”
2011 and became the chief technology officer in 2017.
On 29 November 2021, Jack Dorsey announced that he was resigning as CEO of Twitter and that
Agrawal was replacing him, with immediate effect.

Agrawal was born in Ajmer, Rajasthan, India. Later he shifted to Mumbai. His father was a senior
official in the Indian Department of Atomic Energy and his mother is a retired school teacher. He
studied at Atomic Energy Central School No.4. He was a classmate of the famous singer Shreya
Ghoshal! He may be one of the smartest people in India for his accomplishments such as winning a
gold medal at the 2001 International Physics Olympiad held in Turkey. He earned 77th rank in
the IIT Joint Entrance Exam in 2000, and Agrawal obtained his B.Tech. Degree in computer science
and engineering from IIT Bombay in 2005. Agrawal then moved to the United States to pursue a
PhD in computer science from Stanford University under the guidance of Jennifer Widom.
Parag held leadership positions at Microsoft Research and Yahoo! Research prior to joining Twitter
as a software engineer in 2011. In October 2017, Twitter announced the appointment of Agrawal
as chief technology officer following the departure of Adam Massinger. In December 2019, Twitter
CEO Jack Dorsey announced that Agrawal would be in charge of Project Bluesky, an initiative to
develop a decentralized social network protocol.

The CEO of twitter, joined the company at a time when the company had fewer than 1,000
employees. He worked on boosting audience growth and revenue following various procedures
preceding his success.

When he was the Chief Technology Officer, he managed Twitter’s technical strategy and was
responsible for improving the pace of software development, while advancing the use of machine
learning across company.

Parag is leading a Project Bluesky since December 2019, which is an independent team of open
source architects, engineers and designers to combat abusive and misleading information on
Twitter.
