Objectives:

Students will be able to identify and define key

technical terms used in research.

Distinguish technical terms used in research; and

Display confidence in familiarizing terms used

in research.
What is Research?

3
Is an organized and systematic
way of finding answers to
questions.

It is a planned procedure, not a

spontaneous one. It is focused
and limited to a specific scope.

4
Technical Terms
used in Research

5
Research Problem

A problem that someone would like to research;

it is the focus of a research investigation.
Abstract
A brief summary of a research project and its
findings.

A summary of a study that describes its most

important aspects, including major results and
conlusions.

6
Introduction
It leads the readers from a general
subject area to a particular topic of inquary.

Stating the purpose of work in the form

of the research problem.

7
Literature Review
Provides a view of what others have
written or researched on concerning
topic

Provides an overview of sources you

have explored including books,
scholarly articles, and may other
sources relevant to a particular study.

study which may be based on theory or a
specific conceptual model.

Problem

of the research, the variables of interest to the
researchers. A statement in a form of questions of
the specific issue.

10
Variables

proceed.

The specific procedure or techniques use to identify,

select, process, and analyze information about a topic
Research Design

A strategy for answering your research questions

using empirical data.

Experimental research design
Research Environment/Setting

It is the physical, social, or experimental

context within which research
is conducted.
Limitations

An aspects of a study that the researchers knows

may influence the results or generalization of the
results, but over which he or she has no control.

population is the entire set under
consideration.
Sample

The population researched in a perticular study.

Usually, attempts are made to select a “sample

study.
Respondents of the study

interview for the researchers, or who provide data
to be analyzed for the research study
Data

used as a basis for reasoning, discussion,
or calculation.
