-13 RDRTU-2 Modem Radio

1 Installing the RS485-A + RDRTU-2

The RTU allows the use of an unlicensed radio modem 2 RDRTU, which can be used up to a
transmission power level of 500 mW to communicate with other remote devices in Master or Slave
MODBUS.
 Refer to memo "Theoretical range calculation" to determine
the feasibility and reliability of communications.

The RDRTU-2 modem is connected via an RS485-A board.

 Location of the RS485-A card in the box: no. 1 to 7

 Sensitivity of the receiver: - 118 dBm

 General characteristics:

• 869.475 MHz

 3 user configurable frequency channels • 869.525 MHz

• 869.575 MHz

• 16 dBm / 40 mW

• 21 dBm / 125 mW
 4 user configurable levels of transmission
power • 24 dBm / 250 mW

• 27 dBm / 500 mW (∗)

(∗): transmission power "27 dBm/500 mW" is reserved for an antenna without gain.

 3 types of antenna are available according to the reception level and the topology of the terrain:
 On certain types of antenna, the gain is specified in dBd (dBd = dBi - 2).

Type of antenna Configuration of transmission power

 Antenna with a gain of +13 dBi /+11 dBd  at 16 dBm

 Antenna with a gain of +8 dBi / +6 dBd  at 21 dBm

 Antenna with a gain of +5 dBi / +3 dBd  at 24 dBm

Unlicensed radio standard:

• Depending on the gain of the antenna, it may be necessary to reduce the
transmission level to comply with the standard: "P + G" should be less than or
equal to 27 dBm (500 mW) where P: Transmission power in dBm, G: Antenna gain in dBd.

• In certain countries, there may be restrictions on the use of this frequency band;

 Location of the antenna

 As high as possible,
 In an open space, preferably on the outside of a building,
 Far enough away from any other antenna or metal ground.

 RD-RTU-2 module
 Mounting bracket: this is used to offset the module to a high point, near the antenna, for
better reception level. It can either be screwed to the antenna mast or fixed to a vertical
surface.
 "RD-RTU-2 - RS485A board" link: use a "2 pair" cable, one pair of which is shielded (T+,T-),
1.5 mm² in cross-section, with a reinforced, flexible and watertight sheath.
 Maximum length of the cable the offset module: 50 meters.

 Module RD-RTU-2 must not be supplied otherwise than by RS485A board.
