1. INTRODUCTION

BEWARE
While high voltage systems are in operation, certain elements of the system are live, others
may be moving, and other parts may reach high temperatures. This means that there are
electrical, mechanical and heat-related risks in the use of these systems.

In order to provide an acceptable level of protection for both people and property and taking
into account the applicable environmental recommendations, the manufacturers that form part
of SERCOBE develop and construct their products according to the principle of integrated
security, based on the following criteria:

• Eliminate dangers whenever possible.

• When this is technically or economically unfeasible, build effective protection devices into
the systems.

• Inform users of any remaining risks so as to help them understand the operating
procedures that prevent these risks and help them with the training of the operating
personnel that carry out these information, and the use of the correct personal protection

As a result, when working on the system covered by this manual or in the vicinity thereof the

specifications of paragraph 11.2 of standard IEC-62271-1 must be taken into account. This
work can only be done by personnel who are suitably trained and supervised (in accordance
with the provisions of the EN50110-1 standard on safety in electrical installations and the
EN50110-2 standard which applies to all kinds of activity in, with or near an electrical
installation) and who are completely familiar with the instructions and warnings contained in
this manual and all others of a general nature that may be applicable under current legislation
on the prevention of risks, and all others that in the future may replace or modify them.

The above instructions must be followed with great care, because the safe and correct
functioning of this system depends not only on its design, but also on circumstances which in
general are beyond the control of and not the responsibility of the manufacturer, in particular:

• The correct transport and handling of the equipment from the time it leaves the factory to
the place where it is to be installed.
• Any storage on the way must be carried out under conditions that do not alter or damage
the characteristics of the system as a whole or of its essential parts.
• The operating conditions must be compatible with the specifications of the system.
• The manoeuvres and operations carried out while using the equipment must be
performed in strict accordance with the instructions in the manual, and with a clear
understanding of the operating and safety principles that apply to it.
• Maintenance work must be carried out correctly, taking into account the real operating
and environmental conditions in the place where the system is installed.
• The disposal of the equipment once it has come to the end of its useful life must be
carried out according to the instructions in the manual and legislation in force at the time.

For this reason, the manufacturer will not be responsible for any direct or indirect damage
resulting from any breach of the guarantee or of the rules set out above under any jurisdiction,
including damage to people or assets, loss of profits, periods of idleness, costs of repair or
replacement of materials.

Guarantee

The manufacturer guarantees this product against any fault in the materials or the operation of
the system during the period covered by the contract. If any defect is detected, the
manufacturer may choose either to repair or to replace the equipment. Incorrect handling of
the equipment or the repair of the equipment by the user will be considered a breach of the
guarantee.

2.- DESIGN FEATURES AND APPLICATIONS.

2.1.- Description.

The aerial remote-controlled PM6 disconnector-switch is designed for use on public distribution
networks, at 10kV to 36 kV. Basic components are:

- Control box, integrating a power source, electrical control management and the 1 3
necessary remote control interfaces

The set is prepared to be fixed onto the M. V. line support.

It may be operated:

• Remotely, using the control system in the control box.


• Locally, with the manual command at the support base.
• Several additional functions are available as options.
• See physical description in fig.1.
• The base apparatus is composed of the disconnector-switch set plus electrical control 4
mounted on a small
• Chassis, with manual command activated from the post base and control control box.
• In addition to the base apparatus a series of options is available, as shown in figure 2. 11
• Their use limitations are defined in the application specifications referred to in section
2.4.-

This equipment contains the fluorinated greenhouse gas SF6 covered by the Kyoto Protocol and 5 10
with a global warming potential (GWP) 22 200. SF6 shall be recovered and not released into the
atmosphere.

2.1.1.- Description of control box(TALUS 200P)

The control box is composed of the following elements: (figure 3)

2.4.-Operating conditions.

The unit should be unpacked with great care in order to avoid breakage or deformation of the
conducting components of the disconnector-switch.
This should be carried out as follows:

1. The apparatus, with its packing, must be deposited as close as possible to the post
and parallel to the line. The space between the post and the apparatus must be sufficient to allow
the assembly of surge arresters and the connectors and to allow operation of the lifting

2. Remove top and side panels from upper section, from transverse supports onwards.
Loosen the screws fixing apparatus to packaging.
Once the packaging is open as indicated, release low voltage cable leaving it tight so that the
centre of gravity of the apparatus is not affected. Never let the disconnector-switch rest on the
ground, as this could damage the disconnector-switch output shaft and the connecting cables.

3. Remove post fixing clamp from packaging and screw onto post or metalic support. 3.5- Storage.
Mounting position. (figure 23) - The disconnector-switch will be stored in its original packing.
- It is not advisable to store the units in sealed seaworthy packing for more than a period of six
months,(standard) counted from the moment of dispatch from SCHNEIDER.
When lifting the disconnector-switch, special care must be taken to - Protect from corrosive atmospheres such as chemical agents: cement dust, acid emissions,
avoid damaging the ceramic parts, especially those of the smoke, saline.atmospheres, etc.

- Ensure that all components are stored carefully, stacked or grouped in a way corresponding to
their installed locations.
- Items stored for a long period should be cleaned and lubricated before being used, following the

4.- INSTALLATION.
4.-instalación.
4.1.- General conditions
The minimum conditions corresponding to the point of installation should conform to HV rules
Packaging support contained in the rules applicable in the destination country.

4.2.- Assembly

4.2.1- Installation with high voltage live

- When carrying out jobs under hight voltage, the transformer terminals must receive voltage
simultaneously in order to prevent induced overvoltage phenomena that might damage the
transformer. A proposal is outlined below for assembly procedure under voltage based on a
typical PM6 option.
Please consult for other options.

- Connect the side of the disconnector-switch with no transformer to the line (Figure 9), in order to
ensure that when the line is energised the transformer receives the charge simultaneously

through the two primary terminals. 4.2.2.-Surges arrester assembly.

The surges arrester are usually supplied dismantled and are mounted on the structure in the zone
indicated in 11. For assembly, the screw set supplied has to be placed in the holes.

Screws must be tightened with a torque wrench or spanner. Torque setting 30N/m.

4.2.3.-Connector Assembly.

4.2.3.2- Handling

4.2.3.3- Cleaning Connectors and Sockets

instructed in figures 15 and 16.

4.2.3.5- Screening connectors


The screening connectors are supplied with the cable mounted and must be fitted onto the
socket in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

4.2.3.6- Assembly of elbow Connectors onto Sockets

As indicated in section 4.2.2.1. connectors must be assembled one by one. After greasing, place
Figure15 Figure 16 the nylon thread in the connector as shown in figure 20 and proceed with assembly,
pressing strongly in the direction of the socket shaft, turning clockwise until firmly screwed onto
the socket.
Once the connector is screwed onto the socket and apply a torque setting of 70Nm to the outer
nut with a torque wrench ( figure 21).
4.2.3.3.1 -Cleaning the Connector.
Using the gloves supplied with the KIT at all times, insert the isopropyl alcohol-soaked paper
supplied in the KIT to the zones to be cleaned (figure 15) in a twisting motion inside the connector
until
clean. For less accessible areas, use wooden tool supplied with the KIT, twisting along with the
isopropyl
alcohol-impregnated paper.

CAUTION: Great care must always be taken in cleaning to avoid black rubber semiconductor
residues
(figure 15) in the contact zones between the connector and socket.

4.2.3.3.2 - Cleaning the Socket.

With the same paper used in the connector, proceed to clean the socket in the zone indicated in
figure 16.

4.2.3.4 - Application of Grease


After cleaning, apply a thin layer of grease (supplied with the KIT). Apply 2/3 of the tube to the

4.2.3.7- Extracting the nylon thread

Once the assembly has been carried out, proceed with extraction of the nylon thread. After
extracting the thread, the connector must be turned gently in both directions to eliminate the
marks produced in the grease during extraction.

CAUTION.
Connector and surge arrestor assembly must be carried out WITHOUT VOLTAGE
After checking the torque setting of the connector, no torque pressure above 20Nm must
be appliedin anticlockwise direction to the connector or connections to be screwed onto
this connector.

4.2.4.- Fitting the unit

Take into account the supporting face where the apparatus is to be installed, so that the voltage
transformer
remains supplied even although the disconnector-switch is open.

4.2.5.- Location and structure.

SCHNEIDER is not responsible for layout considerations.


The PM6-S3 and PM6-S4 disconnector-switches can be mounted in a vertical position, on a
wooden, concrete or metal pole.

4.2.7.- Installation of Talus 200P control box.


Preliminary notes:
The control-box have been designed for fitting to the post with either metallic bands or support For alternative installations that cannot be carried out by adapting this information, please contact

The user should manufacture the plates to fix the control BOX. It is vital for the correct adjustment and consequent functioning of the system that all bolts are
tightened to the required torque. Please refer to the torque settings given in table 3.
See the t-200 p instruction manual to know the dimensions between holes. Carry out adjustments with bolts tightened, or these settings will not be correct.
Never knock screws in with a hammer. Widen the hole if necessary.

4.2.9.- Space required

Take the following points into account before drilling into any part:

a)- Make sure that the functioning of the apparatus will not be affected.

c)- Clean up rough edges and burrs.

4.3.1.- Lifting the Disconnector-switch. Take into account the supporting face where the apparatus is to be installed, so that
the voltage transformer remains supplied even although the disconnector-switch is
open.
Assembly

Following unpacking instructions, point 3.3


When lifting the disconnector-switch, special care must be taken to avoid damaging the
ceramic parts,

elevation point.

4.3.2.- Manual command.

The transmission pipes are supplied in a separate package. The lower part of the control, the
operating lever (figure 34) and the piece for joining the two pipes (figure 39) are located in the
same package as the switch.
The switch is supplied in the OPEN position which is shown on the bottom of the switch, see
figure 45.

In the installation, take care not to cover the air holes so that air can circulate in the interior.
A) OPEN: the remote control is blocked.
Once mounted, leave it with the door closed.
B) REMOTE CONTROL: possibility of opening or closing the switch by the
remote control.
C) CLOSED: the remote control is blocked. 4.3.5 Connection to the control box.
• The operating lever, positioned in the lower pipe at its lower part, operates the
three positions A), B), C) and remains set by one, two or three padlocks.
These tasks have to be performed prior to the connection of the PM6 to the line; therefore, there
is no voltage in these cables. Keep this situation during the entire connection of the cables. In
case of carrying out maintenance work, bear in mind that the supply cable is directly connected to
the secondary of the voltage transformer, thus it has alternate current. Be careful when handling
and follow the specific INFORMATION from the electric company for this kind of situations. Not
short circuiting the supply cables causes the destruction of the voltage transformer.
To connect the cables of the switch, follow the diagram supplied with each set of equipment.
The feeding hose is connected on the circuit-breaker input of the control cabinet.
Always connect the feeding hose to the circuit-breaker of the control box in order to avoid
accidental short circuits of these cables, which in operation cause the destruction of the voltage
transformer. Bear in mind the colour code according to the diagram supplied with this cable, since
one of the cables is joined to the earth in the transformer itself.
The battery must be connected to the control box when the equipment has voltage, in order to
avoid its unnecessary discharge.

4.4.- Adjustment and final check.

After installation or servicing work of any type carry out the following checks before connecting
the power supply:
a) Installation should comply with all points indicated in the manual.
b) Check the operation of the disconnector-switch. The disconnector-switch is delivered in the
OPEN position (position indicated in figure 45) and check that the indicator turns to ( I ) by
carrying out a closing operation.(figure 46)
c) Operating direction for opening and closing, as well as the remote control position are both
indicated on the solid front control panel (figure 42)

d) Check that the apparatus closes 5º before the end of run (5 mm on front control panel).
Proceed in the same way when opening. (figure 43)
e) Check all nuts and bolts for tightness (attachment to structure, transmission units, etc.).
c) Do not paint the hinge points or the articulations of the different set components.
d) Check the control unit for correct functioning, paying special attention to correct visual signal
display.
e) Lubricate all articulations and hinge points on the controls. After checking for free movement
several times, wipe off any surplus grease. (See list of lubricants in table 5, section 7). Figure 45 Figure 46
f) Operate disconnector-switch to check for correct functioning.
- Perform several manual opening and closing operations and check disconnector-switch
signalling: - O open (figure 45) - I closed (figure 46)
g) General cleaning of the stainless steel casing with non-abrasive cloth, applying a domestic
cleaner for stainless steel in order to remove pollutants; dust; moisture; oils etc. that may have
adhered to the equipment during assembly and restore passivation within the steel casing.

5 - Local or remote control operations.


6.- SETTING INTO SERVICE
Before locking the operating lever, the electrical control of the PM6, either local or remote control,

3.- State of disconnector-switch.

4.- Operating safety.

Lock in open position (lever on the right) or in closed position (lever on the left) to block
allelectrical controls (local or remote control).
Locking is possible in the 3 positions: remote controlled, open or closed.

17 Apply a closing torque of 70 Nm clockwise to verify that the silicon connections are not loose.
18 The connection terminals of the voltage transformer are in good conditions: absence of fissures.
19 The connection terminals of the voltage transformer do not have traces of oil.
20 The carriage of the voltage transformer does not have any fissures or traces of oil.
21 Check the continuity of the current transformers.

Regulation, final revision and start-up.


23 Verify that the wires that descend are well connected, with the help of the corresponding electrical schematic.

25 Check that the mounting is done according to all the indications given on the installation check list.
26 Check that the medium voltage connections are not tensed in a way that they may cause a continuous bending effort on the
connecting terminals of the medium voltage switch.

28 Check the position of the connecting parts of the transmission rods.
29 Perform opening and closing operations through hook stick, checking: that the movement of the switch is right. The switch

closed.
