CAD PROCEDURE

1 – General

This document describes the method regarding the creation or modification of digital drawings
according BMT standard.
The purpose of this standard is to create uniform drawings.
On BMT project Autocad 2015 and CADWorx Plant professional 2016 SP2 shall be used.
All system variables are set by default. Any change of these should be made with the approval
of lead/project manager (pay attention on DIMLFAC, DIMDEC and DIMLUNIT- bill of material
lengths are based on these variables!).
At the beginning of the project the users must set:
- insertion scale
-drawing units
-save drawing version
- CADWorx database following instructions of CAD/CAE Administrator

2 – BMT drawing

New drawings will be started from the template files located on address: P:\16029 Karratha
Developing BMT\5 Engineering and Design\5.8 Templates\LAYOUT DWG
These drawings contain the standard settings as described below.

CAD PROCEDURE

3 – Layers

Every drawing created in order of BMT shall use the following layers:

The layer properties are set with a Color dependent plot style.
All entities shall be drawn with Color = ByLayer.

Layers shall be used as describe bellow:

a. Border – for tables
b. Cl – for centerline pipe elements
c. Cl_HVAC– for centerline HVAC elements
d. Cl_Steel– for centerline steel elements
e. Dim 1 – for dimensioning
f. Equip – for equipments
g. HVAC – for HVAC elements
h. PIPE – for pipe elements
i. SPS – for support elements
j. Steel – for steel elements
k. Text – for texts
l. Viewl – for viewports

4 – Text style

For texts are created 2 styles:

a. BMT-2.5

b. BMT-4.0

The following text heights are normally used:

4.0 mm height for titles and section denotations.
2.5 mm height for general annotations

CAD PROCEDURE

6 – Model space and paper space

All the 3d models shall be made in model space (equipments, pipes, supports, HVAC, steel
structure) at scale 1:1.
There is a dedicated layer for each group of elements allocated by the CAD/CAE administrator.
Dimensions, annotations, tables, notes etc. shall be made in paper space.

7 – Scale

Scale factor shall be mentioned at each detail.

Use ‘standard’ scale factors as much as possible
(1 : 1) 1 : 2 / 1 : 5 / 1 : 10 / 1 : 20 / 1 : 50 / 1 : 100

8 – Drawing revision

When changes are required to a drawing that has already been issued, the drawing is revised.
Revisions are made with subsequent numbers starting at ‘0’.
A revision cloud shall clearly indicate the changes and shall include a revision triangle.

CAD PROCEDURE

9 – Purge

To reduce the file size unused item shall be removed from the drawing.
All Non-standard entities shall be purged before the documents are sent to BMT.

10 – Plotting

To ensure the correct line weight on prints, the correct Plot Style shall be used when plotting a
drawing.

Only the following plot styles shall be used:

a. BMT-SUPP.ctb –for detail drawings of supports
b. BMT-PIPE.ctb – for piping layout
c. BMT-STEEL.ctb – for steel structure layout
