LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATHICS IV
I. Objectives
 Find the perimeter of squares, rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, and triangles.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Measuring Perimeter
Reference: M4ME-IIIi-51 TG PP243-247
Materials: Behavioral Chart, Pictures, Video Clip, Flashcards
III.Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities
 The Teacher will greet the pupils.
 The teacher will introduce the behavioral chart to the pupils.
1. Drill
 Use Flash Cards for the basic facts in Multiplication and Addition. Find the
product/sum.
Example:

6X2 10+5 9X3 5X3 7+5

2. Review
 Have a guessing game on polygons.
1. I am a polygon with four equal sides and four right angles. What am I? (Square)
2. I am a polygon with 4 right angles and opposite sides that are equal. What am I?
(Rectangle)
3. I have three sides and three angles. What am I? (Triangle)
4. I am a polygon with angles and sides are opposite and equal. What am I?
(Parallelogram)
5. I am a polygon with four sides that are equal and two opposite angles that are
equal. What am I? (Rhombus)
B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation
Show a picture of a zoo.

Ask: What can you see in the picture?

Where do you think it is?
Have you been to a zoo?
What are the animals that you can see in the zoo?

Pauiecan
C. Skills Development
1. Presentation
Show and read a story problem.

The Manila Zoo is the oldest zoo in the Philippines. It has a manmade forest with
different kinds of wild animals even the endangered ones. It must be fenced to protect and
preserve the wildlife of the zoo. The shape of the manmade forest is rectangular with the
sides of 12 meters, 10 meters, 12 meters and 10 meters. What is the total length of the
fence that needs to be built?

Ask: What is the name of the oldest zoo in the Philippines? Manila Zoo
What kind of animals are there in the Manila Zoo? Wild Animals and
Endangered Animals
Across Curriculum:
Wild animals are animals that live in their natural environment like the forest, ocean, and
deserts. An animal is called endangered when there are so few of its kind left that is in danger of
becoming extinct- or totally disappearing from the world forever. Meaning, if we will not protect
and take care of them, their remaining kind will die, and we will not see them anymore.
Let’s watch this short clip of animals that are endangered so that we can protect them.

Now, going back to our story problem, let’s continue to answer the following
questions:
What is asked in the problem? The total length of the fence needs to be built.
What are the given facts that can help you solve the problem?
Rectangular sides of 12 meters, 10 meters, 12 meters and 10 meters

2. Teaching Modeling

Pauiecan
Today, we will find out the total length of the fence the Manila Zoo is
planning to build a fence around their manmade forest. For us to find the total
length, we will find the perimeter of the given plane figure.
Perimeter is the distance around a closed plane figure. To find the
perimeter of a given plane figure, get the sum of the lengths or measurement
of its sides.
Now, lets visualize Manila Zoo’s manmade forest.

To get the formula for the perimeter, add the measurement of each side of the given
plane figure.
Ask: What is the shape of the given plane figure? (Rectangle)
How many sides does it have? (4 sides)
What is the measurement of each side? (12m, 10m, 12m, 10m)
Since it is a rectangle and it has 4 sides, we can say that
Perimeter = side + side + side + side. Then the formula is, P= s + s + s + s
So,

Therefore, the perimeter of the manmade forest lot is 44 meters. Thus, the Manila
Zoo needs to 44 meters.
Now, let’s try to get the perimeter of a square, parallelogram and trapezoid by getting
the sum of the measurement of its sides. P= s + s + s + s

So, P= s + s + s + s P= s + s + s + s

Pauiecan
P= 8cm + 8cm + 8cm + 8cm P= 3cm + 6cm + 3cm+ 12cm
P= 32 cm P= 24 cm

P= s + s + s + s
P= 10m + 8m + 8m + 10m
P= 36m

What if we are looking for the perimeter of a triangle? Lets try to solve the perimeter
of a triangle using this example and formula.

So,

Therefore, the perimeter of the triangle is 36 cm.

Generalization
The perimeter of a closed figure is the distance around the figure. To
find the perimeter of a given plane figure get the sum of the lengths or
measurements of its sides.

3. Guided Practice
Now, together we will find the perimeter of the following plane figure.
