STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE

TITLE COMPRESSED AIR CONTROL

PURPOSE To ensure the air quality for further smooth operation & intended quality

AIR CLEANLINESS: Blotter Test [ASTM D 4285]

1. Ensure the compressed air line is fitted with oil / water trap in working
condition.
2. Ensure the compressor running with more than 7 bar output pressure and fitted
with blasting nozzle.
PROCEDURE 3. Mount a white cloth or absorbent paper on a stiff board.
4. Hold the blasting nozzle at about half a meter distance from the board and
blow the air onto the white cloth or absorbent paper for about 1 minute.
5. Observe for any visible impurities such as Water, Oil, Dirt etc.
6. Any presence of such impurities should call for corrective actions.
7. Corrective actions : Check & Clean the Oil / Water filter.
Install such filters on both – the input & output ends.

It is recommended that the Air

Pressure should be minimum 7 bar
(100 psi) to achieve good blast
cleaning quality in terms of
cleanliness as well as roughness.

Blasted surface will not show the

impurities easily to the naked eye.
REMARKS
Hence the pre-checking is
important.

If the water is moist with water /

vapor then the blasted surface shall
not ‘hold’ for long time & ‘turn’
brown in color in patches; which is
not acceptable as Sa2½ anyway!
