STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE

TITLE DE-GREASING … Organic Solvent Cleaning

PURPOSE To remove the Oil/Grease contamination from the surface before Surface Preparation

1. Confirm the completion of Steel-Preparation.

2. Confirm the area is well lit & well ventilated.
3. Locate the oil & grease contaminated area & mark with slate-chalk or marker.
4. Clean the other surface debris by wiping or compressed air-blow or hard wire
brush.
5. Ensure the oil contamination does not spread around while cleaning.
6. Spray the De-Greasing Solvent with hand held spray bottle onto the
contaminated area and wipe off with clean cloth till all the visual traces of
contamination disappear.
PROCEDURE
7. Ensure the oil contamination does not spread around while wiping.
8. Confirm the de-greasing with Water Bead Test.

WATER BEAD TEST:

9. Spray / sprinkle tap water onto the substrate with a hand held spray bottle.
10. Observe for ‘Beading’ / ‘Blotchy’ or ‘Clean’ surface.
11. Repeat the steps 06 & 07 till 100% ‘Clean’ result is obtained.
12. Compressed air blow on full surface to carry out after completion.

Care should be taken to not use

the same contaminated rags
again and again.

Abrasive Blasting on the oil

contaminated surface shall never
remove the contamination, but
make it more difficult to spot;
REMARKS hence more dangerous.

BEADI BLOTC CLEAN

A fresh water rinse is advisable
to avoid any chemically active
sediments
contaminating the substrate.
Recommended : Xylene, Toluene, Iso Propyl Alcohol or locally
available Solvents.
