1. Introduction:

The purpose of this Method Statement is to outline the requirements to carry out Food Grade
epoxy coating work for water retaining structures and describe in detail the procedure such as
Surface preparation, priming, Application Techniques & Finishing for the project.
Food grade epoxy paints are the derivative of Epoxies conjunctions with Amine Adducts, Poly
amide, Polyamines etc. They provide air drying, salt water Resistant Finish and anti-Corrosive
anti
coating, it also give anti-fungal
fungal properties, as per guide line of FDA and USDA
USDA.
The product possesses good flexibility, adhesion and sa salt
lt water resistance. Food grade Paint can
safely be used for, marine areas
areas,, food processing /packaging companies, internal side of water
tanks.etc

2. Scope:

The scope of this Method Statement covers all the Antistatic epoxy flooring Works in all ARIIL
projects as per GFC Drawings / Project Specifications / Codes for Good Engineering Practices.

3. Reference Documents:

Consulted- person or role whose subject matter expertise is required in order to complete the item
Informed- person or role that needs to be kept informed of the status of item completion

8. Datum / Survey Reference Point

Point:

Reference point i.e. bench mark will be given by surveyor at one point or wherever is required.

9. Work Procedure

9.1. Substrate Requirements: Substrate must be free from rising dampness. All contamination must
be removed to give a clean dry textured surface. Concrete tanks must be tested for water
tightness before coating.
9.2. New concrete or cementitious substrates should have been placed at least 28 days and have a
moisture content of less than 5% before coating with food grade epoxy.
9.3. Before application, the surface to be coated, should be free from loose particles, rust, oils,
grease, or earlier coatings and should be thoroughly dry.
9.4. After surface is dry, all repair work like sealing of joints,
s, crack filling of cavities and crevices by
grouting or any other means should be carried out.
9.5. Cracks should be cut open in “V” Shape groove. Cracks should be filled with Epoxy based Flexible
Putty as a Sealant having Sufficient Flexibility to with stand the differential thermal movements
& level finish.
9.6. If pinholes are observed on the surface, the same should be filled with epoxy putty.
9.7. Primer: Mix the two components of recommended primer and apply on the prepared surface surfac by
means of brush or roller. TThickness of coating approx. 150 micron.
9.8. Coating: Food grade epoxy top coat must be applied immediately after mixing the two
components. Apply two coats of food grade epoxy top coat on previously primed surface by
means of brush or roller with an inter coat interval of 6 - 8 hrs. Thickness
hickness of coating approx. 200
to 300 micron.
9.9. Curing: The surface of top coat will be tack free in 3-4 hours.
9.10. The coated area may be put back in service after 5 days.
