Monosaccharides: Sucrose Is Also Made Up of Glucose and Fructose
1st-2nd sentence
Hydrolyzed means hydrolysis, which means a monosaccharide, cannot be broke down due to
the fact that it’s only a singular sugar unit that isn’t bonded to other sugar units.
3rd
Implying that each classification of carbohydrates are made out of monosaccharide, a singular
sugar unit
(Glucose) the main source of calories, found in fruits and honey, (fructose) commonly found in fruits and
vegetables, and (galactose) which is found in milk
DISACCHARIDES
1st- 2nd sentence
- Basically for a disaccharide to form, two monosaccharides must form a covalent bond which
loses water in the process. This is also called as a dehydration reaction
- Sucrose is also made up of glucose and fructose
OLIGOSACCHARIDES
- The chemical formula changes depending on the amount of monosaccharides joined together,
notice that the number on the right side increases as the number of monosaccharides also
increases.
POLYSACCHARIDES
- Basically all complex carbohydrates are bounded through a covalent bond, also called as
glycosidic bond.
- In other words, a polysaccharide can be considered as a homopolysaccharide if it only has 10 or
more monosaccharide units that are the same type.
