IT IS A LAW THE SEEKS TO ADDRESS THE PREVALENCE OF


VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND THEIR CHILDREN (VAWC)
BY THEIR INTIMATE PARTNERS LIKE THEIR HUSBAND OR
EX-HUSBAND, LIVE-IN PARTNER OR FORMER LIVE-IN
PARTNER, BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND OR EX-BOYFRIEND/EX-
GIRLFRIEND, DATING PARTNER OR FORMER DATING
PARTNER.

REPUBLIC ACT 10157, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE


KINDERGARTEN EDUCATION ACT OF 2012,
PROVIDES FOR THE INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF
KINDERGARTEN EDUCATION AS PART OF THE BASIC
EDUCATION IN THE PHILIPPINE EDUCATIONAL
SYSTEM.
THIS ACT MADE IT COMPULSORY FOR ALL FILIPINOS TO
UNDERGO AND COMPLETE BASIC EDUCATION FROM AGES
5 TO 18.

THE STATE SHALL HEREBY ADOPT THE MOTHER TONGUE-


BASED MULTILINGUAL EDUCATION (MTB-MLE) METHOD.
THE MOTHER TONGUE OF THE LEARNER SHALL BE THE
PRIMARY MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION FOR TEACHING AND
LEARNING IN THE KINDERGARTEN LEVEL.
OBJECTIVES AND AIMS:
PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATION AT THE KINDERGARTEN LEVEL
(AGE GROUP 5 YEARS) MUST AIM TO DEVELOP CHILDREN
IN ALL ASPECTS (PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, AND
COGNITIVE) SO THAT THEY WILL BE BETTER PREPARED
TO ADJUST AND COPE WITH LIFE SITUATIONS AND THE
DEMANDS OF FORMAL SCHOOLING AND TO BE EQUIPPED
WITH READINESS SKILLS FOR GRADE 1

(ENCHANCED BASIC EDUCATION ACT OR THE K TO 12 PROGRAM)

AN ACT ENHANCING THE PHILIPPINE BASIC


EDUCATION SYSTEM BY STRENGTHENING ITS
CURRICULUM AND INCREASING THE NUMBER OF
YEARS FOR BASIC EDUCATION, APPROPRIATING
FUNDS THEREFOR AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
THE K-12 SYSTEM STRENGTHENS STUDENTS'
FOUNDATION IN CRUCIAL SUBJECTS AND SKILLS,
INCLUDING MATH, SCIENCE, LANGUAGE, AND
SOCIAL SCIENCES. K-12 EDUCATION ALSO HELPS
STUDENTS MASTER BASIC SKILLS LIKE READING
AND WRITING, WHICH ARE CRUCIAL IN ATTAINING
HIGHER EDUCATION AND THE JOB MARKET
THE GOAL OF IMPLEMENTING THE K - 12 BASIC
EDUCATION PROGRAM
IS TO CREATE A FUNCTIONAL BASIC SYSTEM
THAT WILL PRODUCE PRODUCTIVE AND
RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS EQUIPPED WITH THE
ESSENTIAL LEARNING AND EMPLOYMENT.

(UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO QUALITY TERTIARY EDUCATION ACT)

THE UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO QUALITY TERTIARY EDUCATION


ACT, OFFICIALLY DESIGNATED AS REPUBLIC ACT 10931, IS
A PHILIPPINE LAW THAT INSTITUTIONALIZES FREE TUITION
AND EXEMPTION FROM OTHER FEES IN STATE UNIVERSITIES
AND COLLEGES (SUCS), AND LOCAL UNIVERSITIES AND
COLLEGES (LUCS) IN THE PHILIPPINES.
WHO ARE THE BENEFICIARIES OF THIS PROGRAM?
(1) STUDENTS WHO HAVE OBTAINED A BACHELOR'S
DEGREE, AS WELL AS THOSE WHO HAVE RECEIVED A
CERTIFICATE OR DIPLOMA FOR A TECHNICAL-
VOCATIONAL COURSE EQUIVALENT TO AT LEAST
NATIONAL CERTIFICATE III AND ABOVE:
(2) STUDENTS WHO FAIL IN ANY COURSE ENROLLED
IN DURING THE COURSE OF THE PROGRAM.
WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS ACT?
IT IS TO IMPROVED PROGRESSION RATE. WHILE THERE
ARE LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL STUDIES SHOWING
THE GOVERNMENT'S FREE HIGHER EDUCATION
PROGRAM DISPROPORTIONATELY BENEFITS HIGH-
INCOME STUDENTS, THERE IS DATA SHOWING MORE
FILIPINO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS CAN ADVANCE TO
COLLEGE AFTER THE ENACTMENT OF THE FREE
HIGHER EDUCATION LAW.
