Characteristics of Civil Disobedience

Civil disobedience is a form of protest where individuals deliberately break laws they
believe are unjust. Characteristics of civil disobedience include:
Nonviolent resistance
A deliberate breaking of the law
A willingness to accept the consequences of breaking the law
A goal of changing the law or policy through peaceful means
A belief that the law or policy being broken is unjust
Possibility of Civil Disobedience Today
Civil disobedience is still possible and regularly takes place in modern times. One
example of recent civil disobedience occurred during the Black Lives Matter protests.
Many individuals participated in peaceful protests and some even broke curfew orders
in order to make their voices heard about systemic injustices and police brutality.
