PART 1
1. INTRODUCTION
The 3 skills that I have chosen that are related to my personal objectives and
professional are technology literacy, financial literacy and communication literacy. These
skills are closely related to my personal objectives and professional as a teacher.

i. Technology literacy.
In this digital age, digital literacy in terms of technology literacy is one of the
fundamental skills to have in the 21st century. Everything is on the tip of our fingers. A
high cost is unnecessary for any of us to have access to where all the vague and
ambiguous information is, the internet, as the price of electronic goods are slowly
decreasing as the years go by. Everything is easily accessible. The impact of technologies
vary but there is no denying that being technologically literate will help to support and
accelerate achievement. I personally think that having the knowledge of technology
improves myself in so many perspectives. The tremendous development in IT has

encouraged me to involve technology as a part of my personal learning plan skill.
Learners can access the good quality of web-based learning materials in different parts of
the world. Being a teacher in the 21st century, it requires me to get as many resources as I
could to educate my pupils. Unfortunately, as agreed by Mike Crowsoft, 2009, teachers
are not given a lot of money to put toward classroom resources which leads to fellow
educators including me to seek help from the digital world. The use of the internet entails
the process of utilizing the information resource on the internet (Oketunji, 2001). Apart
from just relying merely on books, the internet has allowed me to enter the world where
the endless information is. Hence, the need for critical-thinking skills. Moreover, students
are exposed to various ways of teaching so most of the time, conventional ways of
teaching using the white board and chalk board aren’t their cup of tea anymore. Surveys
showed that 56% of students said they prefer access to high-speed internet, 57% said that
they would like laptops, and another 53% said tablets are a must-have. (Laura D, 2015)
With technology constantly being at their fingertips, it is also an obligation for me to
move along with the current trend of learning & teaching as students tend to lose
attention easily in the classroom.
