1 Scope
Vehicle parts, purchase parts, and/or genuine parts of the Volkswagen Group must always be
marked with the corresponding logos as per this standard, provided that this is technically feasible.
Workshop equipment must always be marked with the Group logo (type S) (see section 5.1) and
the quality check seal (see section 5.2).
NOTE 1: The logos shown in this document are merely informative in nature. The size details in
the designations are examples. The appropriate logos (files/CAD, etc.) will be provided via the indi-
vidual Group brands' BrandNet.

2 Requirements
The logos must be applied on the part in the largest font/logo size possible. Where they are posi-
tioned is discretionary. For an exception to this rule, see section 5.
During the design phase/drawing creation, it must be checked by which Group brands the vehicle
part will be used, so that the appropriate logo can be selected. If a final decision cannot be made at
that point in time, then the Group logos „Volkswagen AG“ or „VW AG“ must be given priority, tak-
ing into account any property rights. The use of Group logos is intended to prevent follow-up costs
that would arise due to a later change from an individual brand logo to a Group logo.
This approach applies particularly to vehicle parts that are not directly in the customer's field of
view; see also section 5 for this.
The marking must be designed to be durable and legible throughout the part's service life; see
Volkswagen standard VW 10500.
Downstream work processes must not degrade the legibility of the marking.
Page 3
VW 10514: 2023-02

Preferably, the marking must be applied by incorporating it into the manufacturing tool. Stickers (la-
bels), tags, and the like must not be used for part marking as per this standard.

3 Regulation
The appropriate Design Engineering department will specify the need for part marking using the
standardized text macro (VW 01014, ID-No. NO-E2) in the drawing.
The logo type must always be indicated in the drawing. If this specification is missing, type
„Z“ must be used.
The appropriate Design Engineering department must only specify deviations from the part mark-
ing in agreement with Product Definition, Quality Assurance, and Standardization. They must be
documented accordingly in the drawing.
Parts that cannot be marked for design reasons such as notch sensitivity (high notch stresses) or
lack of space, are exempt from the marking obligation.
In the case of spatial constraints, marking with the logo takes precedence over the country of origin
(VW 10550), the manufacturer's code (VW 10540-1), the part number (DIN 1451-4), the date mark-
ing (VW 10560), and the material marking (German Association of the Automotive Industry [VDA]
publication VDA 260); see VW 10500.
Which logos are to be applied to vehicle parts of different brands must be determined as shown in
table 1 according to their use in vehicles of the different brands.
The application method – cast, punched, etched, embossed, stamped, electric-discharge-ma-
chined, raised, or recessed – must be specified in the drawing. If this specification is missing, the
choice is left to the manufacturer.

The appropriate logos (files/CAD, etc.) will be provided via the individual Group brands'
BrandNet.

5 The wordmark (Group logo)

5.1 Group logo for vehicle parts

If structurally identical parts are used in multiple brands, then the type-Z Group logo (see example
in figure 24) or the type-S Group logo (see example in figure 25) in the case of spatial constraints
must be used. It must be ensured that the Group logo is positioned on the part such that it is as
inconspicuous as possible in the installation position. The Group logo must not be directly visible to
the customer in the installed condition (installation position in the vehicle).
NOTE 1: Owing to their use in multiple brands, the specification of Group logos deviates from the
general requirement in terms of size and positioning (see section 2).

The type-S Group logo (see figure 25) must be used to mark workshop equipment in an easily legi-
ble size. In addition, the quality check seal (see figure 26 and figure 27) must be applied with the
same height as the Group logo.
NOTE 2: Additional details (color, font, etc.) will be provided in a Design Guideline for workshop
equipment.
