National Adventure Camp Report,

Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh)


28 October,2018 to 6 November,2018

Following NSS volunteers attended the camp:

NSS believe in the self-development of the students and youth of the nation by organizing different
camps at various places in extreme difficult conditions where students can learn to survive in difficult
conditions. National Adventure Camp was organized by NSS at Regional Mountaineering Centre
(RMC), McLeodganj (HP).
RMC is a Regional branch of one of the institute which teaches mountaineering in India (ABVIMAS,
Manali). This regional Centre is located at 6000 ft. above sea level. This institute provides various
courses like adventure camp, adventure course, disaster management course, basic mountaineering
course and rock climbing course.

DAY 1- 28th October


Left Chandigarh on 27 oct, 2018 night and reached RMC on 28 oct,2018. We were accompanied by
NSS program officers Mr. Anoop kataria and Mrs paramjit kaur. volunteers where allotted there
dormitory and an introduction ceremony was done in which details regarding the adventure camp and
RMC was given. Volunteers were told about the instructors who will accompany throughout the camp
days. Instructors are Kiran Bhatiya, Ravi Kumar, Malkeet Pathania and Prayesh Awasthi. For next 10
days NSS volunteers from Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh were also part of this camp

DAY 2- 29th October
Volunteers were taken to a morning jog for 3 km till St. John’s church which is also a part of local
sight-seeing. After the morning breakfast adventure activities begin with the Rock climbing. Artificial
wall climbing was set up in the institute and volunteers as well as program officers climbed the wall
efficiently. After this lunch was done and an evening class was taken by the instructors in which
volunteers were told about various KNOTS which are used during mountaineering as well as in basic
life. Knots were climbing knot, anchoring knot, hand cuff and many more. Later in the evening
volunteers with their PO’s went for the local sightseeing.

DAY 3- 30th October


After the breakfast, volunteers, PO’s and instructors heads towards the GHERA village which was the
camp 1 for the next 3 days. Camp 1 was at the height of 6000 ft above sea level. It was a trek of 7 kms.
After reaching the camp, a lecture was given on TENT PITCHING by the instructors. Later in the
evening, a Bonfire session was done in which all the volunteers from different states showed their

talents and shared their thoughts.


DAY 4- 31st October
After the morning breakfast, everyone went for the next activity which was river crossing. This
activity was done on the river GAJ and later head back to camp.

DAY 5- 1st November


On this day, we head towards the next camp which was NAUHLI village which was 5 kms from Camp
1. It was at the height of 7500 ft above sea level. After the trek , a lecture was taken by the instructor
in the evening in which we were told about the mountains and ranges. A bonfire session took place.

Day 6- 2nd November

It begins with thunderstorm and hail storm. This lead to changes in the day plans. After the lunch
when weather was suitable to have a trek we went for 8 kms trek to Jammu got which was at the
height of 9000 ft above sea level. It was the last point for the trekking. After reaching that point we
went back to Camp 2 and was the last day at camp 2.
DAY 7- 3rd November
Early morning, we trek back to camp 1. It was the last day of Camping at Ghera village. That day had
survival night as no dinner was given to volunteers and everyone has to stay outside in the cold
weather along with a special bonfire meet in which volunteers showed up there culture in various
forms like dance, singing etc.

DAY 8- 4th November

Time to go back to the RMC after doing the mountaineering activities. After reaching back to the
RMC, we had a knot test and question answer lecture in the evening.

Day 9- 5th November

Last activity which was Rappelling was done in the morning and after this all the volunteers and
teachers went for local sight seeing to dharamshala. A visit to HPCA cricket stadium, tea garden, war
memorial and local market was done. Later in the evening closing ceremony was done in which every
state showed up there cultural dance and batch ceremony was done. Volunteers were batched by the

Director RMC Ms Anuja Awasthi.


Day 10- 6th November
Time for hard good byes to the people with whom we shared our best memories. It was the best
experience one could ever have. Travelled back to Chandigarh and reached at 8 pm at ISBT 43.
