Abstract:

The aim of this report is to provide an overview of a waveform generator.

A waveform generator is an electronic device that produces various types of
electrical waveforms, such as sine waves, square waves, triangle waves, and
sawtooth waves.

Introduction:
An alternating current (AC) waveform is a type of electrical waveform that
periodically changes direction. Unlike direct current (DC), which flows
continuously in one direction, AC alternates its flow back and forth within a
circuit.

The AC waveform is characterized by its amplitude, frequency, and phase. The

amplitude represents the maximum value of the waveform, which corresponds to
the peak voltage or current. The frequency, measured in hertz (Hz), determines
how many complete cycles the waveform completes in one second. The phase
refers to the position of the waveform relative to a reference point in time.

The most common form of AC waveforms is a sine wave, square waves, triangle
waves, and sawtooth waves.

Objectives:

Able to operate an AC waveform generator by using equipment provided.

And will verify results by observing generator waveforms on the oscilloscope.

Equipment required:
• F.A.C.E.T. base unit
• AC 1 FUNDAMENTALS circuit board
• Oscilloscope
• Generator
• Multimeter
• Two-Post Connectors
• Terminal Posts

Procedures:
1. Locate DC\AC WAVEFORMS circuit block.
2. Do this setting:
• Oscilloscope channel 1 probe (X10)
• CH 1 vertical coupling to AC
• CH 1 attenuator to 0.1 V/DIV
• Horizontal time to 0.2 ms
3. Set the generator function control for a sine wave output.
4. Set the frequency to approximately 1 kHz.
5. Adjust the amplitude to produce a sine wave six divisions high.
6. Using a frequency control increase the frequency and observing the
number of turns on oscilloscope.

Results:

In the start with 1 kHz we can see three turns on oscilloscope.

After increase the frequency

we can see the number of turns

also increase.

Discussion:
• There are various types of AC waveform generators such as function, sine
wave, and AF (audio frequency) generators. These waveforms generators
are similar in the following respects:
1. All are capable of generating AC waveforms.
2. All can vary the frequency of the waveform produced.
3. All can vary the amplitude of the waveform produced.
4. All exhibit a characteristic output impedance.
• To select the type of waveform at the output of a generator, set the control
labeled FUNCTION or WAVEFORM.
• The frequency output of a generator is adjusted by two controls. The
frequency control adjusts the specific frequency within the range set by the
range (multiplier) control.
• The amplitude control adjusts the amplitude of the generator’s output
waveform.

Conclusion:

In this experiment we have started working at AC current, that is important

for us as electrical engineering. And start using oscilloscope in the experiments
that was enjoyable.
