Adjectives- Lesson Plan and Fun Activities

Topic: Adjectives

Subject: English

Skills: Grammar, writing, and creative thinking

Objectives: Students should be able to

 identify adjectives in the story.


 write simple sentences containing adjectives.
 make sentences with comparatives and superlatives.

Presentation:
Task 1:

 Distribute the below story card 'The Little Fish and the Big Fat Bean.'
 Tell students to read the story carefully.
 Tell them to identify the describing words. Give some examples
 Download the task sheet.
 Get pupils to underline the describing words found in the story.

Task 2:

 After a small interaction, list out the describing words in the story on the board.
 Explain the contextual meaning and the use of the words in a sentence.
 Tell them the describing words are called "adjectives."
 Explain the usage of adjectives.
 Tell them adjectives have different forms. They are Positive, Comparative,
and Superlative
 Explains the comparative and superlative forms of the adjectives.
 Examples: (big, bigger, biggest,) (small, smaller, smallest), (beautiful, more
beautiful, most beautiful), (good, better, best)...etc.
 Explain the use of the adjective forms in sentences.
 Example: The cat is big. The lion is bigger. The elephant is the biggest.
 Give more examples of the different adjectives as you need.

Production:
Task 3:

 Distribute the below activity sheet and coloured papers.


 Tell them to prepare a ferocious dragon.
 Tell them to write the three forms of the adjectives shown in the picture.
 Download the activity sheet.
 Students present after they complete.

Task 4:

 Divide students into three groups. Get the first group to call out an adjective,
the second group to say the comparative form, and the third group to say the
superlative form. Repeat the activity.
 (Note: Prior to the lesson, prepare sets of word cards. Each set has three-
word cards. (an adjective, it's comparative, it's superlative)

 Jumbled up the cards. Distribute one card to each student. Get students to form
appropriate sets of adjectives. Examples: tall, taller, tallest, small, smaller,
smallest.
 Get the groups of 3 to construct three sentences and present them to the class.

 Examples: (a) The mango tree is tall. (b) The banana tree is taller. (c) The
coconut tree is the tallest.
