INSTALLATION PROCEDURES

1-1. GENERAL INFORMATION structural damage, do not use metal scribers or lead

Make sure to use the applicable general
information steps that apply to the
installation procedures for this kit.
1. This Service Instruction provides the procedures
to install the Cargo Hook Kit.
9. Following any drilling or cutting, remove burrs
and metal particles. Clean and touch up the surfaces
as required (BHT-ALL-SPM).
10. For modification or repairs to glass or carbon fiber
reinforced composites, refer to the BHT-ALL-SRM,
Chapter 4.

2. It is the responsibility of the installer to verify that
newly installed equipment/systems do not interfere
with, or are susceptible to, the normal operation of
other equipment installed in the helicopter. Refer to
General Information Letter (IL) GEN-07-113 for
additional information.
3. All openings and ports in components, hoses,
and/or tubes disconnected or removed to facilitate the
modification must be capped, plugged, or otherwise
sealed to prevent contamination during the
modification.
11. Refer to the BHT-ELEC-SPM for the electrical
installation procedures.
12. It is recommended that an experienced electrical/
avionics person performs all steps pertaining to
connector disassembly/reassembly. If not specified in
these installation procedures, refer to the
BHT-ELEC-SPM for electrical wiring practices.
13. Perform a continuity check on all wiring newly
installed or disturbed during this modification.

d. Locate the five existing inserts and one plug
button (34) in the bottom skin, at the following
locations:
• FS 107.00 and BL 9.50
• FS 99.00 and BL 9.00
• FS 91.00 and BL 7.50
• FS 83.00 and BL 5.50
• FS 69.50 and BL 1.80
• FS 62.80 and BL 0.62
e. Route the mechanical release cable (11) and
the cable assembly (12) forward and inboard along the
line of inserts.
f. At the aft four insert locations, secure the
mechanical release cable (11) and the cable
assembly (12) with the clamp (14), screw (15),
washer (3), and spacer (16).
g. Secure the mechanical release cable (11) and
the cable assembly (12) to the crosstube with the
clamps (14 and 17), screw (18), spacer (19),
washer (3), and nut (20).
h. Remove the plug button (34) from the
fuselage outer skin, at FS 62.80 and BL 0.62, below
the crew seats compartment.
i. Temporarily remove the T-handle, washer,
and two nuts from the mechanical release cable (11).
Install the grommet (21) on the mechanical release
cable. Route the mechanical release cable and cable
assembly (12) up through the hole and into the
compartment between the crew seats.
j. At the fifth insert location, secure the
mechanical release cable (11) and cable
assembly (12) with the clamp (14), screw (15),
washer (3), and spacer (16). Make sure the
mechanical release cable does not kink or bind.
k. Work the grommet (21), installed on the
mechanical release cable (11), into the hole in the
fuselage.
l. Wrap the mechanical release cable (11) and
the cable assembly (12) together with 0.75-inch
(19-mm) electrical tape 4.0 ±0.5 inches (101.6

±12.7 mm) below and above the grommet (21) hole.
The wrapping must be continuous within these
dimensions to prevent chafing.
9. Install the support assembly (23) as follows:
a. Remove the second, third, and fourth rivets
from the top row of rivets on each side of the console.
b. Position the support assembly (23) against the
left inboard edge of the console so that the top surface
of the support assembly is flush with the top edge of
the console. Pick up the existing rivet holes through
the end of the support assembly and attach with
Clecos, or equivalent.
c. Position the angle (24) under the right end of
the support assembly (23) and against the right
inboard edge of the console. Pick up the existing rivet
holes through the end of the clip and secure with
Clecos, or equivalent.
d. Drill three holes 0.128 inch (3.25 mm) in
diameter through the right end of support
assembly (23) and the angle (24) with a No. 30 drill.
e. Countersink the holes on the top side of the
support assembly (23) and secure the angle (24) with
the three rivets (25).
f. Leave the support assembly (23) ends
secured with Clecos to allow access to the electrical
terminal board.
g. Match cut and drill the holes in the console
center cover (35) from the support assembly (23).
h. Pick up the three screw holes previously
drilled in the console center cover (35) through the
mount assembly (26).
10. Install the release cable mount assembly (26) on
the top of the center panel between the pilot and
copilot seats at three matching holes with three
screws (27) and three washers (3). Note that the
mount assembly must be installed with the cap
slanting forward.
11. Install one of the two release cable nuts on the
threaded end of the cable, and route the cable up
through the mount assembly cap on the center panel.
Secure the center panel in place and install the
remaining nut with the washer to the cable, securing

15. Clean the mating surfaces with MEK (C-309) and
bond the radius block (5) to the fitting (1) with adhesive
(C-317).
16. Install the fitting (1) and radius block (6) on the
right side by repeating step 13 through step 15.
NOTE
The final assembly will be done at a later
step.
17. Temporarily install four screws (7) until the
adhesive cures.
18. Apply corrosion preventive compound (C-101) to
cover the area of the exposed threads, washers,
radius blocks (5 and 6), shims (4), and cabin floor.
19. Install the support assembly (8) to the underside
of the fuselage, utilizing the two existing inserts left of
centerline at approximately FS 115.00 and left
BL 9.50, with two screws (2) and two washers (3).
Mount the support assembly so that the cable stowage
and the electrical connector on the flange are forward
of the attaching screws.
20. For kit -113, install two bumpers (29) to the
structure as follows:
a. Clean the surface free of grease, oil, and dirt
with a cloth dampened with aliphatic naphtha (C-305).
b. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
NOTE
Rough the mating surface of the bumpers
prior to applying adhesive.
c. Bond the bumpers at the locations shown in
Figure 1-2, Sheet 4 with adhesive (C-310). Allow to
cure for 4 hours minimum.
d. Drill a hole 1.40 inches (35.6 mm) in diameter
to match the existing drain hole using the dimensions
shown in Figure 1-2, Sheet 4.
21. For kits -007 and -009, install the mechanical
release cable (9) and cable assembly (10) as follows:
a. Remove the nut and the washer from the end
of the cargo hook mechanical release cable (9). Insert

the ball and cable, attached to end of release cable, aft
through the inboard hole in the support assembly (8)
and secure the mechanical release cable to the
support assembly with the washer and nut.
b. Remove the nut and the washer from the
cable assembly (10). Insert the connector (J180) from
the forward side into the center hole of the support
assembly (8). Position the ring on the chain of the dust
cover (11) over the receptacle and secure with the nut
removed from the connector.
c. Tape the cable assembly (10) to the
mechanical release cable along the entire length, at
six equally spaced places, with 3/4-inch (19-mm) wide
electrical tape as follows:
NOTE
Do not stretch the last turn of the tape. Both
surfaces of tape must be kept clean while
applying. Avoid unnecessary slack in the
electrical wires.
(1) Wind two turns of tape around the
mechanical release cable (9) and the cable
assembly (10). Allow the tape to cover 1.0 to
1.5 inches (25.4 to 38.1 mm) of cable length at each
wrapping.
d. Locate five existing inserts and one plug
button (37) in the bottom skin, at the following
locations:
• FS 107.00 and BL 9.00
• FS 99.20 and BL 7.50
• FS 91.00 and BL 7.50
• FS 83.00 and BL 5.50
• FS 69.50 and BL 1.80
• FS 62.80 and BL 0.62
e. Route the mechanical release cable (9) and
the cable assembly (10) forward and inboard along the
line of inserts.
f. At the aft insert location, secure the
mechanical release cable (9) and cable assembly (10)
with the clamp (12), screw (15), washer (3), and
spacer (16).

g. At the next three insert locations, secure the
mechanical release cable (9) and the cable
assembly (10) with the clamp (12), screw (13),
washer (3), and spacer (14).
h. Secure the mechanical release cable (9) and
the cable assembly (10) to the crosstube with the
clamps (12 and 17), screw (18), spacer (19),
washer (3), and nut (20).
i. Remove the plug button (37) from the
fuselage outer skin, at FS 62.80 and BL 0.62, below
the crew seats compartment.
j. Temporarily remove the T-handle, washer,
and two nuts from the mechanical release cable (9).
Install the grommet (21) on the mechanical release
cable. Route the mechanical release cable and the
cable assembly (10) up through the hole and into the
compartment between the crew seats.
k. At the fifth insert location, secure the
mechanical release cable (9) and the cable
assembly (10) with the clamp (12), screw (13),
washer (3), and spacer (14). Make sure the
mechanical release cable does not kink or bind.
l. Work the grommet (21), installed on the
mechanical release cable (9), into the hole in the
fuselage.
m. Wrap the mechanical release cable (9) and
the cable assembly (10) together with 3/4-inch
(19-mm) electrical tape 4.0 ±0.5 inches (101.6
±12.7 mm) below and above the grommet (21) hole.
Wrapping must be continuous within these dimensions
to prevent chafing.
22. For kits -103 and -113, install the mechanical
release cable (9) and the cable assembly (10) as
follows:
a. Remove the nut and the washer from the end
of the mechanical release cable (9). Insert the ball and
the cable, attached to the end of the release cable, aft
through the inboard hole in the support assembly (8).
Secure the release cable to the support assembly with
the washer and the nut.
b. Remove the nut and the washer from the
cable assembly (10). Insert the connector (J180) from
the forward side into the center hole of the support

assembly (8). Position the ring on the chain of the dust
cover (11) over the receptacle and secure with the nut
removed from the connector (J180).
c. Drill a hole in the support assembly (8) with a
No. 60 drill. Secure the nut with lockwire (C-405).
d. Locate five existing inserts and one plug
button (37) in the bottom skin, at the following
locations:
• FS 107.00 and BL 9.00
• FS 99.20 and BL 7.50
• FS 91.00 and BL 7.50
• FS 83.00 and BL 5.50
• FS 69.50 and BL 1.80
• FS 62.80 and BL 0.62
e. Route the mechanical release cable (9) and
the cable assembly (10) forward and inboard along the
line of inserts.
f. At the aft insert location, secure the
mechanical release cable (9) and the cable
assembly (10) with the clamp (12), screw (15),
washer (3), and spacer (16).
g. At the next three insert locations, secure the
mechanical release cable (9) and the cable
assembly (10) with the clamp (12), screw (13),
washer (3), and spacer (14).
h. Secure the mechanical release cable (9) and
the cable assembly (10) to the crosstube with the
clamps (12 and 17), screw (18), spacer (19),
washer (3), and nut (20).
i. Remove the plug button (37) from the
fuselage outer skin, at FS 62.80 and BL 0.62, below

k. Work the grommet (21), installed on the
mechanical release cable (9), into the hole in the
fuselage.
23. Install the support assembly (23) as follows:
a. Remove the second, third, and fourth rivets
from the top row of rivets on each side of the console.
b. Position the support assembly (23) against the
left inboard edge of the console so that the top surface
of the support assembly is flush with the top edge of
the console. Pick up the existing rivet holes through
the end of the support assembly and attach with
Clecos, or equivalent.
c. Position the angle (24) under the right end of
the support assembly (23) and against the right
inboard edge of the console. Pick up the existing rivet
holes through the end of the clip and secure with
Clecos, or equivalent.
d. Drill three holes 0.128 inch (3.251 mm) in
diameter through the right end of the support
assembly (23) and the angle (24) with a No. 30 drill.
e. Countersink the holes on the top side of the
support assembly (23) and secure the angle (24) with
three rivets (22).
f. Leave the support assembly (23) ends
secured with Clecos to allow access to the electrical
terminal board.
g. Cut and drill holes in the console center
cover (44) to match the holes in the support
assembly (23).
24. Install the release cable mount assembly (26) on
the top of the center panel between the pilot and
copilot seats at the three matching holes with three
screws (27) and three washers (3). Note that the
mount assembly must be installed with the cap
slanting forward.
NOTE
Check the clearance between the release
cable and the wire bundles under the seat
deck. Reposition the clamps as needed to
prevent chafing or to control interference.
25. Install one of the two release cable nuts on the
threaded end of the cable, and route the cable up and

through the mount assembly cap on the center panel.
Secure the center panel in place and install the
remaining nut with the washer on the cable. Secure
the cable to the cap by tightening the nuts. Install the
T-handle to the mechanical release cable (9).
26. For kits -103 and -113, at the fifth insert location,
secure the mechanical release cable (9) and the cable
assembly (10) with the clamp (12), screw (13),
washer (3), and spacer (14). Make sure the
mechanical release cable does not kink or bind.
27. For kits -103 and -113, secure the mechanical
release cable and the electrical cables together by
installing one nylon tie (30) approximately 3 inches
above the floor between the pilot and copilot seat and
one nylon tie below and adjacent to the grommet (21).
28. For kits -103 and -113, install one nylon tie (30)
approximately 4 inches below and aft of the
grommet (21) to secure the mechanical release
cable (9) and the cable assembly (10) together in the
curved area.
29. For kits -103 and -113, secure the remaining
external run of the mechanical release cable (9) and
the cable assembly (10) together with nylon ties (30)
approximately 3 inches on either side of the clamps
(six places).
NOTE
The following step is only applicable if the
suspension assembly (28) will not be
installed at this time.
30. Install screws (7), head down, with washers (32)
and nuts (33), and screws (36) with washers (35).
1-5. CARGO HOOK PROVISIONS
(KITS -003, -007, AND -009) —
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
1. Separate and route electrical cable assembly (1,
Figure 1-3) wires M2B18 and M3B18N to the existing
terminal board (4TB1) mounted on the forward
bulkhead panel of the seats.

Figure 1-1) with the hook pointing forward, to the fitting
on the underside of the fuselage with quick-release
pins, one at each end of the cargo suspension beam.

5. Install the cargo suspension assembly (1) with
the four bolts (31, Figure 1-2), four washers (32), and
four nuts (33) in the four aft holes. Insert the bolts from
the top through the fittings (1) and the radius blocks (5
and 6).
6. Install the four screws (34) and the four
washers (35) in the four forward holes of the cargo
suspension assembly (1) and pick up the four existing
inserts in the bottom of the fuselage.
7. Connect the ball and the cable to the
connector (8, Figure 1-4) of the release cable (9).
8. Place the dust cover (11, Figure 1-2) on the
dummy receptacle and install the cable assembly (4,
Figure 1-4) on the electrical receptacle from which the
dust cover was removed.
1. If installed, remove the four screws (36,
Figure 1-2) from the four inserts on the underside of
the helicopter.
2. If installed, remove the four screws (7), four
washers (32), and four nuts (33) in the holes aft of the
inserts where the bracket assembly (14, Figure 1-5)
will be installed.
3. Apply sealant (C-251) to the entire mounting
surface of the bracket assembly (14).
4. Position the bracket assembly (14) on the left,
underside of the fuselage, with the aft holes in the
bracket assembly aligned with the drilled holes in the
helicopter. Secure with two bolts (31, Figure 1-2), two
washers (32), and two nuts (33).

5. Align the forward holes in the bracket
assembly (43) with the two existing inserts in the
fuselage. Install two screws (34) and washers (35).
6. Place the washer (15, Figure 1-5) and the
shim (16) on the left end of the beam (6) with the
washer against the beam shoulder. Insert the end of
the beam into the bearing of the bracket
assembly (14).
7. Place the washer (15) and the shim (16) on the
right end of the beam (6) with the washer against the
beam shoulder.
8. Position the remaining bracket assembly (14) on
the right end of the beam (6). Peel the shims (16) and/
or remove the washers equally at each end of the
beam until the holes in the bracket assembly align with
the holes in the helicopter. Ensure minimum clearance
between the beam shoulders and the bracket
bearings.
9. Secure the bracket assembly (14) to the
helicopter with two bolts (31, Figure 1-2), two
washers (32), and two nuts (33) in the aft holes, and
two screws (34) and two washers (35) in the forward
holes.
10. Install the washer (13, Figure 1-5) and the
nut (11) one at each end of the beam (6). Tighten the
nut. Back off to the nearest slot and install the cotter
pin (12).
11. The beam (6) shall swing freely. High friction
indicates misalignment between the holes in the
bracket assembly (14) and the holes in the helicopter.
If the beam does not swing freely, remove the bracket
assembly and adjust the shims (16) to properly align
the mounting holes.
12. Remove the ball end of the release cable (3) from
the stowage on the underside of the helicopter and
attach to the quick connector of the release cable on
the suspension assembly (1).
13. Remove the dust cover from the electrical
connector, adjacent to the release cable stowage, and

install on the dummy receptacle. Install the electrical
cable assembly (2), of the suspension assembly on
the connector from which the dust cover was removed.
14. Secure the connector of the electrical cable
assembly to the receptacle on the cargo suspension
assembly (1) with lockwire (C-508).
1-10. RESTORATION
NOTE
Refer to the applicable 206L Maintenance
Manual for the procedures.
1. Close the overhead panel.
2. Install the upper center console cover on the
pedestal.
3. Install the bottom center console cover on the
pedestal.
4. Install the cover between the pilot and copilot
seat covers.
5. Install the left and right crew seat covers.
6. Install the center seat interior trim panel.
7. Install the pilot collective stick boot.
8. Install the collective friction knob on the shaft.
9. Install the left and right crew seats (Chapter 25).
10. Connect the battery and/or external power and
close the battery access door (Chapter 96).
11. Perform an operational check of the cargo hook
system (paragraph 1-11).
12. Amend the weight and balance records in
accordance with Chapter 2.
13. Return helicopter to the flight configuration.

1. Inspect for evidence of binding, excessive
looseness, and security of attachment.
2. Inspect the electrical wires for chafing and loose
connections. Check for broken wires in the cable.
3. Examine the manual release cable for chafing,
broken strands, and ease of operation. Check the
connector (8, Figure 1-4) on the manual release cable
for cracks and broken spring.
4. Inspect the rollers on the suspension assembly
for wear, pitting, and/or spalling.
5. Examine the hook assembly for evidence of
cracks and wear.
6. Inspect the placards for appearance, legibility,
and conformity to configuration.
7. Perform the corrosion inspection in accordance
with the Corrosion Control Guide CSSD-PSE-87-001.
8. Service and lubricate the helicopter hook and
components.
2-4. CARGO RELEASE HOOK ASSEMBLY —
REPLACEMENT
1. Remove the release hook assembly as follows:
a. Disconnect the electrical cable.
b. Disconnect the mechanical release cable.
c. Remove the shoulder bolt that secures the
hook assembly to the suspension assembly.
d. Stow the ends of the cables on the support
assembly located on the helicopter underside, forward
of the suspension assembly.

e. Stow the bolt on the suspension assembly by
adding washers to the fill grip of the bolt.
2. Install the replacement hook assembly as follows:
a. Position the hook assembly on the suspension
assembly with the open end of the hook facing the
right side of the helicopter.
b. Secure the hook assembly to the suspension
assembly with the existing bolt, washer, nut, and new
cotter pin.
NOTE
Hardware stack-up varies when using the
hook assembly 17149-2 or 17149-2L from
Breeze-Eastern Corporation or the hook
assembly 528-010-00 from Onboard
Systems International (Figure 2-1).
c. Remove the electrical cable from the stowed
position and connect to the hook assembly.
d. Remove the mechanical release cable from
the stowed position and connect to the hook assembly.
e. Perform an operational check of the cargo
hook system (Chapter 1).
2-5. ELECTRICAL CHECK
1. Open the overhead console and remove the
pedestal cover located between the pilot and copilot
seats.
2. Turn the BAT switch to on position and with a
multimeter, perform a voltage (24 VDC) check as
follows:
a. In the overhead console, press the CARGO
HOOK circuit breaker (4CB5) and check the voltage
on the line side and the voltage output. If no voltage
exists, check the wire and the connections. Replace
the circuit breaker if no voltage is found.
b. Check the voltage at pin D5 on the terminal
board (4TB1). If none exists, repair or replace wire
M1A18. Check the voltage output at pin D5. If none
exists, replace the terminal board (4TB1) module.

c. For kits -003, -007, and -009, check the
voltage with the CARGO HOOK switch (4A5S3) in the
on position, at terminals 1, 4, 2 and 5. If none exists on
the line side, repair or replace the wires and/or the
switch.
d. For kits -103 and -113, check the voltage with
the CARGO HOOK switch (4A5S3) in the on position
at terminals 9 and 10. If none exists on the line side,
repair or replace the wires and/or the switch.
e. Check the voltage on the line side at
terminals A5 and B5 of the terminal board (4TB1). If
none exists, replace the terminal board (4TB1)
module.
f. Check the voltage at pin B on the connector
(J180) and wire M2B18. If none exists, repair or
replace the wire and/or the connector.
g. At the terminal board (4TB1), check continuity
from terminal A1 to the ground. Check continuity to the
ground. If none exists, repair or replace wire K3B16N.
h. At the connector (J180), pin C, check
continuity to the ground. If none exists, repair or
replace wire M3B18N and/or the connector.
i. Connect the connector (P180 to J180). Check
the voltage and the continuity at pins A and B. If none
exists, repair or replace wires M2C18 and M3A18N, or
replace the connectors.
j. Attach the connector (P181) to the cargo hook
and check for actuation of the hook. If the hook
actuation does not occur, the cargo hook is faulty.
k. Turn the BAT switch to OFF.
2-6. WEIGHT AND BALANCE
Compliance with this Installation Instruction/Service
Instruction affects the weight and balance of the
helicopter as shown in the following table. Adjust
ballast as necessary to return empty weight Center of
Gravity (CG) to within allowable limits (applicable 206L
Maintenance Manual, Chapter 8).
NOTE
This is the delta weight effect of this kit.
This includes weight and effect of the items
removed when this kit is installed.
