Specific Course Course Description
Information
This course will introduce students to the legal system in Qatar. Students will explore legislation
related to: the oil and gas industry; establishing a company in Qatar; contract law, securities, data
protection, privacy and communications law in Qatar; labour laws, residency and hiring foreign
workers; tort laws; international laws; and current topics in the law relevant to Qatar. Through
application of the lecture materials and the legislation itself, students will resolve various business-
related scenarios that require the use of Qatar law in the problem-solving process.

Missed Assessments
A student who misses an assessment must email their instructor and request to apply the
missed assessment guideline. The guideline can be applied only once per course per
semester for either a major or a minor assessment.
Students that miss a major assessment (Definition: Assessment Value is 10% or greater):
The grade for the assessment will be the grade the student receives on their Final Exam
assessment.
Students that miss a minor assessment (Definition: Assessment Value is less than 10%)
The outcome of a verbal assessment may result in a change in the grade for that
assignment.

Ensure that mobile phones are turned off and are out of sight during class.
If you are expecting a call due to some family situation or other emergency, please inform me before
class.
If you have an appointment requiring you to either be tardy (late) to class, or should you need to leave
class early, please inform me before the beginning of class.

Students who engage in distracting or disruptive behaviour will be asked to leave the room and/or written
up.
Late assignments/discussion posts will not be accepted.

The Learning Commons provides open and closed group study space, student computers, and research and
reading library collection. Visit the Innovation Space and Digital Media Centre in the Learning Commons to
spark your creativity. Services in the Learning Commons include help in the areas of communication skills,
IELTS preparation, as well as career support. Located in Building 3 Career Counselling and Resource
Centre (CCRC) The Career Counselling and Resource Centre aims to assist students with their career
planning process. It holds a wide array of career resource materials, including computer interactive career

IT Help Desk
The Student IT Help Desk is an extension of the IT Operations department with support available to assist
students with questions they have about their password, e-mail and connecting to Wi-Fi. Located in the

Plagiarism:
Plagiarism or other misuse of another's work is not allowed (including that generated by AI sources).
Penalty may lead up to and include dismissal from UDST.
Your work must be your own and not be copied. All sources must be referenced using the APA
citation style. Any incidents of cheating or plagiarism will be dealt with through the UDST’s
disciplinary policies.
Students will be given zero (0%) for handing in work that is not their own—this applies to both the
person who cheated and the person who supplied the work. They will also be reported for
Academic Dishonesty. Refer to the Student Code of Discipline.
The instructor will use Turnitin on all assignments. Any assignment with more than 10%
“similarity” and is not properly referenced will receive a mark of zero (0%).
Please properly cite the use of AI, and include any AI prompts that you use during the course of an assessment.
Please be aware that AI assistants are still susceptible to “hallucinations” and are there to answer all of your
questions – even if incorrectly answered. You MUST include a reliable resource as a back-up to information they
provide you.
Attendance:
Class attendance will be taken regularly and monthly attendance reports are maintained by the Registrar’s
office.
Attendance Warning letters are submitted for frequent non-attendance and repeated warnings may lead up
to and include dismissal from UDST.
Remember, any absence that is not excused under the current UDST policy counts towards the 15%
attendance allowance in the course. If you reach greater than 15%, you will not be allowed to sit the final
exam, and will have an attendance fail grade appear on your transcript.
Medical Notes:
Students absent for medical reasons must provide documentation to the Registrar’s office upon returning to
class. Please be aware that an absence of four or more days needs to be approved by the Dean, College of
Business.
Students are responsible for missed course materials and are asked to consult with course instructors upon
return to class.
