1.

Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo, a song that became popular after the 1986
EDSA revolution. It was a song that commemorated the collective effort of
2 million Filipinos who trooped to ESDA with the purpose of ending a 20-
year despotic rule of a dictator.
2. The song’s title, literally translated to English means “The gift of the
Filipinos to the world.” Yes, it is a song that showed the world that
democracy can indeed be restored.
3. In the opening lyrics, the composers wanted to convey that the very
democracy and freedom they fought for back then will never be retaken.
4. The second stanza sings about how thousands of Filipinos who had one goal
in mind were able to achieve their goal of restoring democracy to the
country by trooping to EDSA and Malakanyang that resulted to the ouster
of then dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
5. In the refrain, the song speaks about how reforms in Government can be
attained through bloodless means.
6. Another stanza warns about losing our democracy again. That it is very
important that we preserve and guard this democracy from those who are
looking to abolish it. That we do not restore another dictator to the throne.
7. Democratic institutions exist to uphold the very essence of the 1986
bloodless revolution. However, there are some indications that the country
is headed back to what is before the People Power Revolution.
8. For one thing, the Marcoses are back in power. Since being allowed to go
back to the country, they have initially regained their bailiwick before, and
have been elected to office on a national scale.
9. The part where the song spoke about us regaining our freedom is slowly
beginning to lose its essence as well as numerous violations of human
rights have been recorded under the present administration.
10.In a democratic country, Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo is truly a song whose
lyrics we will have to truly live by. However, if we will; act to the contrary,
that single momentous event where our country rocked the world will only
be just another special non-working holiday.
