CONCLUSIONS AND

RECOMMENDATIONS
CONCLUSIONS
CONCLUSIONS
• Conclusions are logical deductions based on the data in the findings section.

• Usually includes a comprehensive summary of findings.

• Ends with a statement which will lead to the recommendation section.

• DO NOT include tables or figures in this section.

• It must contain summary of findings and logical conclusions.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR
CONCLUSIONS (CONT’D)
• What is the strongest and most important statement that you can make from
your observations?

• If you will meet the reader at a meeting six months from now, what do you
want to remember about your paper?

• Refer back to problem posed, and describe the conclusions that you reached
from carrying out this investigation, summarize new observations, new
interpretations, and new insights that have resulted from the present work.
GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR
CONCLUSIONS (CONT’D)
• Relate directly to the research questions or objectives.

• Represent the contribution to the knowledge.

• Relate directly to the significance of the study, which is always, in some way, to
improve the human condition.

• Serve as major generalizations, the answer to the problem(s) revealed in

Chapters 1 and 2. For the first time in the dissertation, the researcher can state a
personal opinion when the collected data support it.
RECOMMENDATIONS
RECOMMENDATIONS
• These can take two forms: recommendations for further study, or
recommendations for change, or both. Each recommendation should trace
directly to a conclusion.
GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR
RECOMMENDATIONS
How to write recommendations:

1. Brief – write concisely; any reason for recommendation should only be given
if necessary

2. Clear – do not be ambiguous as how the suggestion should be implemented.

3. Precise – vague recommendations usually result from insufficient research/

analysis
GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR
RECOMMENDATIONS (CONT’D)
Recommendations should be:

1. Logical – should flow logically from conclusions.

2. Relevant – must meet the purpose and the scope as stated in the introduction
section

3. Feasible – must be practical and workable.
