At the end of this lesson, students are able to:

1.Define permutation.
2.Try to illustrate permutation using the four
different methods.
3.Illustrate the permutation using tree
diagram or listing method.
▪What and why do we count?
▪What is a faster way to count?
▪Why do we group things?
▪Why do we need to arrange
things?
A close friend invited Rosa to her birthday
party. Rosa has 3 new blouses (stripes, with
ruffles, and long-sleeved) and 2 skirts (pink,
and black) in her closet reserved for such
occasions. Assuming that any skirt can be paired
with any blouse, in how many ways can Rosa
select her outfit?
❑What was the situation about?
❑How many arrangements were you able to
make?
❑Do you think that these are all the possible
arrangements?
❑What did you think Permutation is?
➢Is refer to all possible arrangement of a set of objects.
➢It can be illustrated by :
- listing,
- making a tree diagram,
- making a table, or by
- using the Fundamental Counting Principle (FCP).
•Arranging 4 different shoes on a shoe
rack.
•Creating your pin code in your ATM card.
•A combination lock on your padlock.

The Fundamental Counting Principle (also known as the
Multiplication Rule or the Sequential Counting Principle)
can be used also in determining the number of possible
arrangements of set of objects.
So, using the FCP in determining the number of
possible outfits out of the 3 blouses and 2 skirts, we just;

3(blouses) x 2 (skirts) = 6 possible outfits

5 blouses
4 skirts
5(blouses) x 4(skirts) = 20 possible outfits
❑Have you tried ‘arranging your
things in your own bedroom?
❑How you feel after
accomplishing such task?
In life, there are things that should be
done following a certain order to have better
results.
Corinthians 14:40, which says, “But all things
should be done decently and in order”.
A.What is a permutation?
B.What are the 4 methods in
illustrating the permutation?
Illustrate the permutation of the objects by any of the ff:
a.Listing c. table
b.Tree diagram d. Fundamental Counting Principle
Task 1. You want to order your lunch from the school
canteen, which offers student meals consisting of 1 cup of
rice, 1 meat dish, and 1 vegetable meal if there are 3 choices
of meat dishes (chicken, pork, beef) and 2 choices of
vegetable dishes (Chopsuey, pinakbet)?
Task II: If you have 10 T-shirts, 5 pairs of
pants and 3 pair of shoes, how many ways can
you choose your outfit for a day?
Task III: Suppose you secured your phone
using a passcode. Later, you realized that you
forgot the 6-digit code. You only remembered
that the code contains the digits 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
and 6. How many possible codes can there be?
Direction: Illustrate permutation for each situation using a
tree diagram or listing method.
1. If Rolly has 12 T-shirts, 6 pairs of pants, and 3 pairs of
shoes, how many possibilities can he dress himself up for
the day?
2.A dress-shop owner has 8 dresses that she wants to
display in the window. If the display window has 5
mannequins, in how many ways can she dress them up?
3. In how many ways can the letters of the set { M, A, T, H}
be arranged to form ordered codes of 4 letters?
