DIVISIBILITY RULES
When a number can be divided evenly with no remainder it means it is divisible.
A number is divisible by:

2 If
the last digit is EVEN.
ends in 0,2,4,6,8

3 If the sum of the digits is divisible by 3.

4 If the last two digits form a number that is divisible by 4.

5 If the last digit is a 5 or 0.

6 If the number is divisible both by 2 and 3.

7 If
you can double the last digit and subtract it from the rest of the number. The
number should be divisible by 7 with no remainder.

8 If the last three digits form a number that is divisible by 8.

9 If the sum of all the digits is divisible by 9.

10 If the number ends in zero.

Learning Competency: uses divisibility rules for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 to find common factors.

ORDER OF OPERATIONS: PMDAS/GMDAS

Protect – solve everything in the PARENTHESIS ()!
My Dear – then, solve all the MULTIPLICATION and DIVISION going left to right!
Aunt Sisa – lastly, solve all the ADDITION and SUBTRACTION going from left to right!

which is also the same with GMDAS,

Guide – start solving those numbers in GROUPING SYMBOLS!
My Dear - then, solve all the MULTIPLICATION and DIVISION going left to right!
Aunt Sisa - lastly, solve all the ADDITION and SUBTRACTION going from left to right!

Example:
(4 + 3) x 10 ÷ 2 + (5 x 6)
7 x 10 ÷ 2 + 30
70 ÷ 2 + 30
35 + 30
65

Learning Competency: Performs a series of more than two operations on whole numbers applying
Parenthesis, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction (PMDAS) or Grouping, Multiplication,
Division, Addition, Subtraction (GMDAS) correctly.

Use the order of operations to solve the following:

1. 50 – 4 x (10 – 3) + 28 ÷ 7
2. 9 + 5(8 – 2) ÷ 15
3. 30 – 4 x 5 + 2
4. 85 – (17 x 3)
5. 48 ÷ (2 x 2) + 73

GREATEST COMMON FACTOR (GCF)
Factors are numbers that we can multiply together to get another number. Factors are always EQUAL TO
or LESS THAN the number.
Greatest Common Factor (GCF) is the largest factor that divides two numbers.
There are 3 popular methods for determining the Largest Factor two numbers have in common.

Method 1: Listing Method

Example: Find the greatest common factor of 12 and 32.

GCF = 4
Factors of 12: 1 2 3 4 6 12
Factors of 32: 1 2 4 8 16 32

Method 2: Continuous Division

Example: 8 and 16
2 8 16
2 4 8
2 2 4
1 2
GCF = 2 x 2 x 2
GCF = 8

Method 3: Prime Factorization

Learning Competency: finds the common factors, GCF, common multiples and LCM of 2–4 numbers
using continuous division.

I. Using continuous division, find the GCF.

1. 15 and 21
2. 24 and 40
3. 20 and 35
4. 18 and 27

LEAST COMMON MULTIPLE (LCM)

Multiple is the product result of one number multiplied by another number.
For example, we can get the multiples of 5 by multiplying 5 with numbers 1, 2, 3, and so on.
Multiples of 5 are: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25…
Least Common Multiple (LCM) is defined as the smallest multiple that two or more numbers have in
common.

For example: Take two integers, 2 and 3.

Multiples of 2: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20….

Multiples of 3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30 ….

6, 12, and 18 are common multiples of 2 and 3. The number 6 is the smallest. Therefore, 6 is the least
common multiple of 2 and 3.

The LCM of two numbers is the smallest number divisible by both numbers.

Method 1: Listing Method

Example: Find the greatest common factor of 12 and 32.

LCM = 2
Factors of 12: 1 2 3 4 6 12
Factors of 32: 1 2 4 8 16 32

Method 2: Continuous Division

Example: 8 and 16
2 8 16
2 4 8
2 2 4
1 2
LCM = 2 x 2 x 2 x 1 x 2 LCM = 16
Method 3: Prime Factorization

Learning Competency: finds the common factors, GCF, common multiples and LCM of 2–4 numbers
using continuous division.

I. Using continuous division, find the least common multiple of the given numbers.

1. 18 and 24

ADDITION OF FRACTIONS
What is fraction?
Fractions represent the parts of a whole or collection of objects. A fraction has two parts. The number on
the top of the line is called the numerator. The number below the line is called the denominator.

It tells how many equal parts of the

whole or collection are taken.

It shows the total number of equal

parts the whole is divided into or the
total number of the same objects in a
collection.

How to add fractions?

To add fractions, there are three steps.
Step 1: Get a common denominator by multiplying each fraction by the other’s fraction’s denominator (top
and bottom).

Step 2: Add the numerators together and keep the denominator.

Step 3: Simplify the result if possible.
