Abstract

This study sought to determine impact of watching English animated kids

shows on the vocabulary development of young learners. In the 21 st century,

young learners are being exposed to technology at a very young age. These

learners are using the technology for entertainment without knowing that the

videos they are watching are helping their vocabulary growth and enhancing their

language acquisitions.

The researchers wanted to know if watching English animated kids shows

helps to develop the young learners’ vocabulary and communication skills. Using

a case study approach, over a period of time, this study assesses the vocabulary

growth process of young learners exposed in these animated contents. Seeking for

answers, the researchers observe a group of learners who are watching English

animated kids shows in daily basis. Observing how these shows affects their

vocabulary and language acquisitions. Affecting the way they communicate and

talk to other people, and calling things in their English names.

Indicated by the preliminary discoveries that exposure to animated kids

shows enhanced the growth of language skills and vocabulary of young learners.

This shows that being exposed to these kinds of shows really affects the young

learner’s vocabulary development and the use of the English language is being

displayed from time to time. The outcome of this study is about providing new

perspectives for educators and parents exploring unique approaches to build a

solid vocabulary growth among young learners in their developmental years using

English animated kids shows.
