CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

(Brief introduction of the problem and background of the study)

Introduction

Fishbones are utilized in animal nutrition as a feed component due to their

nutritional value and potential advantages. These bones contain essential minerals such as
calcium and phosphorus, vital for bone development, muscle operation, and overall
animal health. When processed and included in animal feeds, fishbones can aid in
meeting these mineral requirements, especially in livestock and poultry diets. The
calcium and phosphorus present in fishbones support proper skeletal structure, assist in
poultry eggshell formation, and contribute to overall animal growth and health.
Nevertheless, it's crucial to ensure proper processing to mitigate risks of splintering or
choking hazards. Introducing fishbones into animal feeds can offer a sustainable
approach to utilizing fish processing byproducts and enhancing the nutritional content of
animal diets.

Corn serves as a versatile and nutritionally-rich feed ingredient across a range of

animal diets, notably in livestock and poultry nutrition. Corn serves as a concentrated
energy source derived from its carbohydrate content, primarily starch, which is essential
for various metabolic functions, growth, and physical activities in animals. Animals
readily digest the starch in corn, facilitating efficient nutrient and energy utilization from
their feed. The energy contribution from corn conserves dietary protein, directing it
towards vital roles like muscle development and repair. Corn's role extends to facilitating
balanced diets by supplementing it with proteins, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids,
forming a foundational energy component. This energy-rich quality enhances feed
efficiency, enabling animals to convert feed into body weight more effectively. The
energy content in corn supports optimal growth rates, weight gain, and overall
performance, leading to heightened productivity. High-energy diets containing corn aid
animals in managing stressors such as environmental changes and disease challenges.

This study aims to help enhance the growth of broiler by feeding fish bones and
mashed corn to help in adding nutrients in the body of chicken such as protein and
calcium as feed additive.

General Objectives of the Study

The general objective of this study is to discover the effectiveness of fishbone and
corn as protein and calcium feed additive on broiler chickens.

Specific Objectives of the Study

1. To determine the weight of the chickens.

2. To measure the height of the chickens.
3. Observing the chicken’s physical characteristics in terms of muscle growth.
4. To count the number of laid eggs.

Time and Place of the Study

This study will be conducted on October 2023 at Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija during the
school year 2023-2024.
