TITLE: Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of Delivery Personnel in Tuguegarao City on

COVID-19

RECOMMENDATIONS

CHAPTER 1

Statement of the Problem

 The panel recommended that the hours of work would be added into the employment
profile of the respondents
 The group will add “ongoing medications” under clinical profile
 Adding health seeking behavior was also recommended by the panel. Furthermore, we
were advised to remove “vaccine” under treatment and management

Revised Statement of the Problem:

This research attempts to find the correlation between the profiles of the delivery

personnel, their knowledge on Covid-19, their attitude towards COVID-19 and their practices on

Covid-19 prevention and control. This study aims to answer the following:

1.What is the demographic profile of the delivery personnel as to:

a) Age

b) Gender

c) Marital status

d) Location

2.What is the socio-economic profile of the delivery personnel as to:

a) Occupation

b) Educational Attainment

c) Income

e) Health-seeking behavior
Scope and Delimitation

Inclusion Criteria:

The data that will be utilized in this study will be gathered from those delivery personnel

servicing the area of Tuguegarao city with at least 2 months in service. This due to the fact that

they have had the atmosphere of experience of working for delivery services under community

quarantine and they already have developed knowledge, attitudes and practices on how to cope

with the new normal form of work amidst the pandemic.

Exclusion Criteria:

The other riders who are newly hired or have not reached 2 months in service. Shifting to

new kinds of work in a small span of time doesn't guarantee a total adaptation to ascertain their

experience immediately. Refusal to participate in the survey due to privacy matters of concern is

also an exclusion criterion.

The researchers will conduct this study entitled “Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of

Delivery Personnel of Tuguegarao City Towards COVID-19” which will primarily focus on said

personnel of the aforementioned locale since they are more prone to such disease exposure

amidst the threat of local transmission into their health. First, it lays their knowledge about

COVID19 information. Second, their attitudes towards government policies and measures of

safety protocol observance. And, third, practices related to prevention of local transmission in the

area.
Sample selection will be gathered within Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. The city serves as

one of the delivery hubs among parcels or ordered items coming from all over the country and

overseas in the region where a high incidence rate of COVID-19 risk occurs too outside the

locality. It is where the operation of sorting the freights/parcels are being processed and

transports them to the personnel responsible for the delivery zone. In addition, the city is one

among the areas in the province that has a high risk of COVID19 local transmission and location

also of the government tertiary level of healthcare in Region 02 which is the Cagayan Valley

Medical Center (CVMC) where several active cases of such disease are admitted in the city.

Meanwhile, the respondents of the said study will be those delivery personnel which are

highly exposed from day to day delivery workforce services in this time of community

quarantine due to COVID19.

Moreover, subject matter to be used will be their demographic profile, socio-economic

profile, employment status and health status pertaining to their correlation of their KAP towards

COVID19.

The present study has some limitations too. First, the survey will be done online. Second,

the simple random sampling strategy will be initiated within the social network of researchers

and chosen respondents. Third, their knowledge, attitude and practices may change over the

course of the public health crisis as the pandemic goes by in time due to change in quarantine

status.
CHAPTER II
METHODOLOGY

Research Design

This study will utilize a mixed method research design. It is a research approach whereby the

researchers collect and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data within the same study. In

this study, the researchers aim to assess the delivery personnel’s knowledge, attitudes and

practices towards COVID-19 by using a survey instrument that mixes qualitative and

quantitative questions, and both forms of data will be integrated and analyzed.

Locale of the Study

The study will be conducted within Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. The city serves as one of

the main delivery hubs among parcels or ordered items coming across areas all over the

Philippines or overseas in the region where a high incidence rate of COVID-19 risk occurs too

outside the locality. It is where the operation of sorting the freights/parcels are being processed

and transports them to the personnel responsible for the delivery zone. In addition, the city is one

among the areas in the province that has a high risk of COVID19 local transmission and location

also of the government tertiary level of healthcare in Region 02 which is the Cagayan Valley

Medical Center (CVMC) where several active cases of such disease are admitted in the city. Said

study will be conducted in the second semester of the academic year 2020-2021.

Respondents of the Study

Respondents of the study will be the delivery personnel with services catering to the

transport and delivery of items/freights/parcels from their respective target area of concern

within the city.

Instrumentation

The researchers will be conducting online surveys through the use of adapted and

modified questionnaires. The questionnaires were modified and adapted from the studies namely:

Knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards COVID-19 among Chinese residents during the

rapid rise period of the COVID-19 outbreak: a quick online cross-sectional survey (Zhong, B., et

al.,2020); Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of People Towards COVID-19 in Benadir Region

of Somalia: A Cross-Sectional Study (Mohamed, A.S. et al., 2020); and Knowledge, attitudes

and practices of COVID-19 among income-poor households in the Philippines: A cross-sectional

study (Lau, L.L. et al., 2020). The questionnaires will have their content validated through

experts in the field of public health and research from Cagayan State University.

The questionnaire contains a combination of multiple choice and open-ended questions

regarding the respondents’ demographic profile, socio-economic profile, employment profile and

clinical profile.

The questionnaire also contains questions which require the respondents to choose their answers

from “Yes”, “No” and “Not sure” to gauge the respondents’ knowledge, attitudes and practices

on COVID-19.

Data Collection Procedure

Prior to conducting the research, the researchers will first seek the approval of the dean of

the College of Allied Health Sciences. A letter requesting the conduct of the study and collection

of the data will be submitted to the dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences and to the

delivery services and couriers in the selected locale of the study.

Prior to the conduct of the survey, the respondents will be made aware of the purpose of the

study and the respondent’s informed consent will be respected and they will be given the choice

to participate or refuse to participate in the study.

The survey will be conducted through the online forms platform google forms. The respondents

will be sent the website link for the google forms survey and they shall be given ample time to

answer and ask for clarifications from the researchers. Retrieval of the answered forms will be

done through the google forms database.

Analysis Framework

In this study, researchers attempt to describe the association of the profiles of the delivery

personnel, their knowledge on COVID-19, their attitude towards COVID-19, and their practices

on COVID-19 prevention and control. The researchers will make use of explanatory sequential

design, wherein the researchers shall collect and analyze quantitative data and qualitative data as

a follow up. The collected data will be tallied using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and the results

of the quantitative aspects of our study will be organized and be interpreted through graphs and

various illustrations. The researchers will also utilize the Pearson correlation test to measure the

relationship between the respondents profile, their knowledge, attitude and practices on COVID-

19, the anova test to analyze if the KAP scores are significantly different across the different

demographic and socioeconomic groups and the multivariable linear regression analysis will be

used to determine the factors that may affect their knowledge, practices and attitudes towards

COVID-19 using the independent variables: age, sex, educational attainment, socioeconomic

status along with the employment and clinical profile.

Ethical Considerations

Participants shall be briefed with the consequences of participating. They have the right

to ask questions and have the right to be heard and redressed. The dignity and the wellbeing of
the participants is protected at all times. All information and data the participants provided will

be treated with confidentiality and have the right to anonymity. The participants shall be asked

whether they want to or don't want to partake in the study. Lastly, the participants’ consent shall

be asked by the researchers for them to use the information given

A. KNOWLEDGE modified and adapted from Knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards
COVID-19 among Chinese residents during the rapid rise period of the COVID-19 outbreak: a
quick online cross-sectional survey (Zhong, B., et al.,2020)

Question Yes No Not

sure

The main clinical symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, fatigue, dry cough,
and myalgia.

Unlike the common cold, stuffy nose, runny nose, and sneezing are less
common in persons infected with the COVID-19 virus.

There currently is no effective cure for COVID-2019, but early

symptomatic and supportive treatment can help most patients recover from
the infection.

Not all persons with COVID-2019 will develop severe cases. Only those
who are elderly, have chronic illnesses, and are obese are more likely to be
severe cases.

Eating or contacting wild animals would result in the infection by the

COVID-19 virus.

Persons with COVID-2019 cannot infect the virus to others when a fever is
not present.

The COVID-19 virus spreads via respiratory droplets of infected

individuals

Ordinary residents can wear general medical masks to prevent the infection
by the COVID-19 virus

It is not necessary for children and young adults to take measures to prevent
the infection by the COVID-19 virus.

To prevent the infection by COVID-19, individuals should avoid going to

crowded places such as train stations and avoid taking public
transportations

Isolation and treatment of people who are infected with the COVID-19
virus are effective ways to reduce the spread of the virus

People who have contact with someone infected with the COVID-19 virus
should be immediately isolated in a proper place. In general, the
observation period is 14 days

Receiving the vaccine will guarantee my immunity from the virus

B. ATTITUDES modified and adapted from Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of People
Towards COVID-19 in Benadir Region of Somalia: A Cross-Sectional Study (Mohamed, A.S. et
al., 2020)
