ACTIVITY REPORT
[for meetings, seminars, trainings, workshops, conferences, projects, programs, activities and other related activities]

Title of Activity Date/Time Place/Venue

Orientation on the
Implementation of the April 22 – 25, 2024 Albert Hall, Teacher’s Camp,
Teaching Manual on 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Baguio City
Children’s Rights
Details of the Activity
Description of the activity:
In collaboration with Geneva Office for Human Rights Education (GO-HRE), the four-day
orientation session was designed to report on the success of the COLEGA Teaching
Manual pilot programs conducted in the respective SDOs of Quezon City, Cagayan De
Oro, and Escalante, Bacolod.
The orientation included the dissemination of the COLEGA teaching manual; a
compilation of flexible teaching resources and ideas developed to meet the needs of
young people effectively dispensing knowledge on the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights which can be taught during homeroom classes. This in turn would ultimately
improve and guide learner behavior compatible with human rights knowledge and create
climates or culture based on human rights principles.
The speakers Atty. Stephen Mecham and Ms. Angela Mecham of GO-HRE also discussed
the best practices of teachers and classroom management which would effectively
improve the delivery of lessons and learner behavior.

Highlights [Insights/Relevant Learnings]:

One of the major findings during the pilot of the activity is that there is a dire need to
teach the child’s rights for better awareness. Hence, the orientation-session was a call for
a re-commitment of the schools to uphold Human Rights by integrating the rights of
children in lessons and homeroom guidance activities. The COLEGA manual includes
lessons on promoting equality, dignity, kindness and respect to all which many learners
may not yet be aware of. Notably, schools may consider using the manual as a reference
during homeroom sessions as the modules are tailor-fitted to Filipino context. Most of
the lessons included in the manual may be administered within 30-minutes.
One of the advantages of the manual is that the authors have granted the facilitators
permission to localize the lessons; facilitators may choose the content best of the
learners and use the songs, character names, pictures and activities provided in the
manual or substitute them for ones that are more familiar to the learners while
maintaining the same principle and themes. However, the facilitators must not change
the wording of the Human Rights Articles.
Ways Forward:
 The undersigned plans to re-echo the facilitator’s toolkit to teachers of Grades 7 to
12, with special attention to AP and ESP teachers.
 Discuss educational approaches and effective classroom practices and facilitation
techniques that may be adapted and utilized by teachers.
 Turnover of 15 copies of Grade 7-12 COLEGA Teaching Manuals to the PCNHS
administration.
