Zip, Zap, Zop

“Verb Style”

Zip, Zap, Zop is an ice-breaker game usually done in small groups. With a
few modifications, it makes a great game for education.

Choose whether to play in one large group or in small groups (small groups
will give each child more practice).

Have your group(s) stand facing each other in a circle. They should be fairly
close together.

Choose one player in each group to begin. You will call out a verb from your
verb bank.

As soon as you call out the word, the first player will point to another
player in the group, having outstretched arms with palms together. They
should say the present tense of the verb as they point.
The person who was pointed at should quickly (less than a second or two)
say the past tense form of the verb while pointing at another person).

That person should say the future tense form of the word while pointing to
a group member.

Then the teacher should call out a new word, and the person who was
pointed at last would begin a new round.

If at any point someone says the wrong word or pauses for too long, they
step out of the circle and the game continues without them. Until only one
person is left.

Option: Designate one person to stay outside the circle of each group and
call out the new verbs so that play remains quick.
