I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students would be able to:
1. Recognize the importance of Complements in grammar and identify the
different types of Complements to further extend knowledge about
Complements.
2. Advocate the usage of Complements to the academe and exemplify the skills in
adding Complements in each written and oral scholarly work.
3. Select the correct answers based on what Complements are and create an
essay that incorporates Complements.

III. Background Knowledge

Instructions:
The teacher will show three pictures that the students will be giving a positive adjective
compliment! The teacher will use these adjectives to formulate sentences to introduce
Complements. The students must type their positive adjectives in the chatbox.

IV. Direct Instruction


The teacher will discuss the following in order:
1. What are Complements?
- The teacher will discuss the difference between the words “compliment” and
“complement” (grammar). Furthermore, the teacher will give the basic definition
of what a compliment is.
2. The Subject Complement and Object Complement
- There are two types of complements: the subject complement and the object
complement. The teacher then discusses the parts of the subject complement and
object complement and how they differ from each other.
3. The Importance of Complements
- Lastly, since complements aren’t that familiar in every grammar lesson that the
teacher teaches. At this juncture, the teacher will give the conspicuousness of
complements and how the students can apply it in their everyday lives.

V. Practice
Let’s Play Jeopardy
Instructions:
The teacher will do an Oral Recitation by picking volunteers from the students or choosing a
student from the Slot Machine. The students will pick any points from different categories from
the list and they will answer a corresponding question behind the points the students will pick.

VI. Closure
The teacher will show a short video clip about what Complements (in general) are.

VII. Assessment
Traditional Online Assessment
Instructions:
The teacher will send the Google forms to the chatbox of Google Meet. The test will have three
parts: Multiple choice, modified true or false, and identification. The students are given 5-7
minutes to complete the test. If the student is unable to access the Google forms, the teacher will
send the questions to the chatbox of Google Meet and they will get a piece of paper to write their
answers. When the time is done, the teacher will reveal the answer keys, and the teacher will
announce the top 5 who passed the assessment.

VIII. Assignment
Instructions:
The students will create an essay that tackles their perception of receiving compliments from
other people. The questions below can help the students create their essays:
1. Do you believe the compliments that people say to you? if yes, why do you think they said
those compliments? if not, what’s lacking?
2. Compliments are somehow on the positive side, but are there instances that compliments
are negative? explain why.
3. Can we consider Compliments as “words of affirmation”? give examples to further
strengthen your side.
Make sure to highly incorporate Complements in every sentence that the students will be writing.
The students will also highlight those Complements and indicate whether it is a subject or object
Complement. Maximum of 500 words and minimum of 300 words.
